i'm not sure toney is such a great win for jones, you only have to look how prime toney was made to look like **** in a number of fights listed below D - sanderline williams (11 defeats to his name) :rofl L - thadzi (8 defeats) L - griffin (twice) SD - sosa SD - tiberi :rofl SD - johnson its pretty clear that toney was made to look poor against some very average fighters, even 11 defeat sanderline williams got a draw with prime toney i'm not sure if you are aware of this bailey but james toney has also been twice found guilty of taking banned anabolic steroids. this means that james toney didn't have enough confidence in his own ability to beat the best and in turn repeately cheated to try and beat competitors :-( the thing that makes me laugh most about toney is how people try to big up his victories over jirov and barkley. jirov was a eurobum with **** all on his resume :deal iran barkley had previously been destroyed in 1 round by nigel benn and had then lost to a shot to **** roberto duran at middleweight when duran started his career at lightweight. toney beat barkley after this and toney fans try to big the performance up in fact, if you take into account toneys tap out in the UFC, he will probably just be remembered as a drug cheating quitter.
yeah but with toney weight wasn't as much a factor as conditioning. he was more suited at that time toward 175 because he ate his fat ass up to 175. doesn't mean it was a healthier weight or a better fighting weight, just that he didn't have to purge himself to make the weight. instead he gorged.
Griffen getting the win over Toney was impressive, so was Thadzis aswell, but they were close competitive fights. RJJ totally outclassed Toney from bell to bell. That makes it a greater win. Also RJJ moved up in weight, not only fought the best SMW out there, but the P4P #1.
Like someone else said earlier, the Toney that Thadzi beat wasn't that same dominant MW & SMW champ that Roy beat and he didn't stamp his authority on the fight in the way that RJJ did. As mentioned, at this stage of his career, he had lost focus, been through a couple of trainers and was more interested in eating food than boxing. So yes it was a great win for Drake in terms of his career accomplishments but not something that can be held against Roy giving him his first clear loss.
Im not so sure I laughed so hard in my life ever. anyway that was the perfect fight thats how I like them ko at the last second of the fight.
There wasnt a KO at the end of that fight it was only a knockdown, but anyway if Jorov was so good when Toney beat him what were his 5 best wins at that point or at least his 3 best wins?
don't expect an answer anytime soon these eurobums get promoted into all time greats if an american beats them :rofl
Basically I agree with your post. Both Griffin and the Thadzi fights were close and competitive, however most people think Toney deserved the nod in both Griffin fights - I do so too. The Toney-Thadzi fight could have gone either way, I think Thadzi deserved his close win against Toney. While Toney was probably just as poorly conditioned when he faced RJJ than when he faced Thadzi, it's true that Roy dominated him while Thadzi only got a close win. I don't know which win is greater in retrospect as Roy is an ATG while Thadzi is just a fringe contender/journeyman. They're still both great wins. The Toney fight wasn't Roys first fight at SMW. Roy actually had trouble to make the SMW limit - just as Toney had. Toney wasn't the P4P#1 fighter at the time, that was Pernell Whitaker. Toney was considered P4P #2
Double standards are very apparent on the ESB forums. Think how big a win Kessler was when fouled to defeat by Ward :rofl for example. Remember how Dawson was the greatest LHW ever for beating 2 fighters 14-15 years older than him. One with double figure losses and the other with a loss to the double figure losses fighter atsch. Shame is you just cant get a sensible answer from some of these ESB users. Still as said, I am working hard on my, break the delusion project. I appreciate your support
