No, but it will establish him as a solid and capable champion. Cotto is not an elite fighter himself. Just because he gave Money a decent fight, hell, he still lost. I ain't hating on him, just calling it like I see it.:bbb:bbb
Well Cotto is not elite, but if he were even if Trout beat him he is not elite. Beating an elite does not make a guy elite. Barkley never was elite or seen as elite after Hearns beat him. Beating elites does not make an elite, but beating elites makes a guy great. Hearns and Leonard had the elite status before they fought, but they matched their hype as most guys should to be considered great.
hmm i thought it had plenty of GOOD fighters with 2 of the main popular fighters not including mayweather in jmw
I'd say yes, although it really wouldn't surprise me all that much if Trout were to win. 154 isn't the deepest division ATM. Not bad, mind you.
Height means very little...especially when it's only a few inches. Cotto's height has never been a problem. and it won't be for Alvarez either. He carries the weight without being hindered. Mosley was 36 years old, and Clottey was and is a nobody who's only real claim to fame is a win over glass hearted Judah and fighting close with a B level talent like Cotto(I thought he won, which is a real black mark on Cotto)
Considering you've always been bias against cotto, that would be true to you. Nevermind this B level fighter gave Floyd the fight of his career but also fought Pac toe to toe and performed lightyears ahead of what Floyd and Pac did against an old shot to **** Mosley.
No, it will not. Trout has to beat Cotto then he has to double back and beat the winner of Vanes-Lara, and then he'd have to be K-9 before I can even begin to consider him elite. Elite comes when you have beaten a string of top notch fighters within your division.
Trout is a totally legit opponent for any top level fighter at 154. The Lopez win and the Rodriguez domination were mighty impressive, as is his fighting on the road so frequently. He's fought in Mexico 3 times, Panama once, and Canada once. I think he presents an interesting match up for Cotto. I don't understand the notion of him not having accomplished anything or him being an unworthy opponent. To save anyone time on boxrec, and to see who he has beat in the past two years: 2011 W UD12 Rigoberto Alvarez (27-2) in Mexico for vacant WBA World 154 W UD12 David Lopez (40-12) in Mexico; WBA World 154 defense (as of this defense, Cotto was the WBA Super World 154) W TKO6 Frank LoPorto (15-4-2) in Texas, USA; WBA World 154 defense 2012 W UD12 Delvin Rodriguez (26-5-3) in California, US; WBA World 154 defense ? Miguel Cotto (37-3) in New York, US; WBA World 154 defense Say he wins decisively... How would that not be elite among his junior middleweight contemporaries??
