If David Tua whips Shane Cameron in October he becomes ranked in the Top 15. He has trimmed down, he is 36 years old and seems to have a new attitude and new NZ-based promotional help. Doesn't that mean he has time for a last title run? We always knew he has the talent - just has not been showing his potential and idled away the years in sloppy fashion. But what if the hunger has returned? Does he have a shot?

    Your thoughts...?

I don't think so. He's been out too long. I hope he proves me wrong. He's got to get in shape to have a chance, and that has always been his problem.

David Tua does not have the talent to stay in shape. I have no doubt that he trains hard when in camp, but camp is not the problem.

It is a maintenance issue. These issues do not get better as a fighter gets older - they inevitably get worse.

I think that he certainly has the tools for one last title run, possibly even enough left to pick up a belt, but it all comes down to how badly he wants it. If he remains motivated/in shape, and is way more active than 1 or 2 fights every couple years, then sure. He still has a great chin and power is the last thing to go, and seeing as in how he always had that beautiful left hook, Im sure he has plenty of power left.

i seen tua on the news here in nz the other night , he is down to 114kgs , and his aim id to lose another 5kgs , he looks like he still got the power by the way he was hitting the bag , its one of those fights where ya just have no idea what will happen , could be over in 5 secs or go the distance , gonna be a good night for nz boxing

I'm thinking after he exposes Cameron he'll have a couple of nothing fights to fulfill his contract with Maori TV, then he should be in a position to start looking at a title shot.
Who that shot is against will have massive implications for his chances of taking it IMO One of the Klits and he needs a massive upset, if Haye gets past Valuev and Tua can somehow line up a shot then I'd be pretty excited.

Holyfield actually has a big name, and Tua has a long, long history of asking for way more than he's worth. If he was willing to fight regularly for modest paydays, building his name back up until he earned a big one, he'd probably already have a title by now and wouldn't be broke. In the meantime, he probably doesn't have much time left, and now that the super weak titlists like Maskaev and Briggs are gone, I doubt he has a chance.

Holyfield has a big name but he didn't deserve the Valuev fight never mind the Iggy fight. Tua will need at least 2 or 3 wins against decent oppisition but if Valuev wins against Haye (doubt this will happen) he could get a shot. He missed the chance big time i think like you said brick a few years ago if he had stopped being a ***** he could have got a title and a big pay day off a klitchko.

    Btw is Tua broke?

I think Tua is addicted to Ox and Palm Corn Beef. He'll NEVER be in continuously good enough shape to offer the boxing world anything but 'BIG' regional fights such as against a Cameron.
