If Tyson fought in the 70s he would not survive

I can't see Mike beating Liston at that age and never prime Foreman after the prison.
Ali was just better even Mike said that.

Ali, in turn, said that Tyson was better. I don't think it means anything. If you judge Tyson's chances based on the fight with Tillis, it's like judging Ali based on the fight with Doug Jones. Liston was a different type than Ali, completely different.

The ones who are like Ali like Douglas and Tillis Tyson had problems with them.
I don't even see Tyson lasting full 15 rounds just trading punches.
Ali that beat Liston or Ali that beat Foreman would beat Tyson.

Ali in fact said he'd stick and move and stop Mike in the later rounds. Which is probably about right.

I saw an American actor's program with Mike, Muhammad and SRL. When asked who would win, Ali pointed to Tyson, Tyson denied it and pointed to Ali. Don't ask me for a link unless you're accusing me of lying. By the way, it doesn't matter at all. It's funny how people often take these types of statements seriously. I also heard that Tyson claimed to be Alexander the Great - will you also take this as proof that he could be a medieval commander?

It was on Arsenio Hall. He said "I was a dancer, but if he hit me, dead". Yeah IF and Ali had been hit by harder punchers than Tyson. And like we already pointed out, on a different occasion Ali said he would stick and move and finish Tyson late. He never said Tyson was better.

Alexander the Great a medieval commander? Dude, you need to go back to history class, lol.

I think you're right, Alexander the Great was not a medieval leader and this is of great importance to our thread, just like the fact that Ali once said this and then that. You are a truly outstanding boxing and history expert, you amaze me with your arguments.

    Mike could beat them all.

He wouldn't get bored (after cleaning out the division) and with multiple viable foes on the horizon he wouldn't be distracted or lose focus either.

From Ali to Holmes there would no time to breathe, but if anyone could pull it off it would be Mike Tyson. You take someone with a granite chin, more explosive than Frazier, power rivaling Foreman, speed rivaling Ali, durability, etc.

    A little plug...

Ali certainly was on many occasions very complimentary & seemed genuinely impressed by young Tyson, but I chalk up that high regard, even if genuine, to the fact they weren’t contemporaries. I suspect Ali really did think young Tyson was that good, but would have disrespected the hell out of him had they been in the same era.

Likewise I theorise Ali would be effusively praising Liston, Frazier & Foreman if they all appeared after his own time.

The prospect of getting Mike a year stint in the 70s similar to his 85-88 run would be scary for any fighter in the 70s

The 70s was a great era and one of if not the best for the heavyweights but take the rose tinted glasses off people.

Imagine he debuts in 74. By 75 he’s fighting top level guys. Could you imagine Tyson against post Zaire Ali? Or even worse, post Manila Ali? Who literally used his durability as his defence.

Again, imagine him against an already past it Frazier? Surely no one realistically is giving him a shot here

Foreman is still a stylistic nightmare, but wasn’t the same after Zaire. I think we can probably make Foreman a favourite, but by no means is this a foregone conclusive, especially after the mental damage Ali dealt him

Norton is getting on and got stopped early by the only other two people on his resume that hit harder than Mike

Holmes coming into his prime is a mouthwatering prospect of a fight. Personally I always thought Tyson had the right style to beat Holmes prime for prime, that’s just my opinion

So thats the top 5 heavyweights of the 70s and Mike is almost definitely winning 3 of those fights, but realistically could go 4/5 or 5/5

People like, Spinks, Shavers (always a punchers chance) Quarry are getting stopped

Lyle and Young have a chance, but I wouldn’t come close to favouring them.

Again, with timing of Tyson dropping is probably giving him the best possible chance, but that’s mainly to highlight the fact that in the best possible scenario, Tyson could well beat the top 10 heavyweights of that era and to dispel the people brushing this under the rug with the usual ‘well it was just the 70s it was the best era’ gobbledygook

I think he survives just fine. Probably pick up a couple losses but he’d still be among some of the best players
