I know it's waay to early to say but if fury never fights again will the winner of the aj v wlad fight be seen as the new lineal champ as marvin hart, max schmeling Floyd Patterson were?. Or will that be decided with the next dominant champ comes along? "just interested in how the lineal title may play out

I don't think the winner of AJ v Wlad threatens Fury's claim at all.

Wlad's done nothing since Fury schooled him.
So, as far as lineage goes ....
If Wlad wins he can't claim a thing over Fury.
If AJ wins he can't claim a thing over Fury.

Someone's going to have to really shake up the division to establish a claim.
If Fury never fights again obviously he'll lose his claim somewhere along the line, but another HW has to step forward and do something remarkable.

Well Fury gave up his claim but I'd say the winner of this fight vs the winner of Wilder V Parker has the best chance of being seen as the next champion.

But even if fury doesn't fight for another five years when he does come back he'll still be the lineal champ. That's how it's been in heavy weight boxing for years. Ali was seen as the champ still when he came back to fight frazier. Spinks was regarded by many as still champ even though he had no official title, until tyson beat him. So even if someone comes along to unify all belts fury will still be the man to beat. So even though fury lost all the belts he's still the man to beat

No, the lineage died with Tunney.

Fury basically has the lineal title hostage at the moment.

He has to say "I have retired" before we can consider it vacant.

If that was the case, then Klitschko vs. Wilder would decide the new incumbent.

Yes. When there is no lineal champion ring magazine rules say a 1 vs a 2 or 3 becomes the new lineal champion.

I don't think that Joshua is top three yet, and I don’t think that we have a credible declaration of retirement from Fury.

That's where it is at the moment, fury is the lineal champ and in the meantime anyone else who becomes a belt holder will be just that. If for example aj wins, goes on to pick a few more belts up he won't be seen as the man who beat the man. It all rests with fury at the moment. If and when he fights again.

He gave up his claim to belt. Said he needed to focus on his health.

I hope he recovers and returns to the ring.

It's Fury who gave up the championship claim, not me

"I won the titles in the ring and I believe that they should be lost in the ring, but I'm unable to defend at this time and I have taken the hard and emotional decision to now officially vacate my treasured world titles and wish the next in-line contenders all the very best as I now enter another big challenge in my life which I know, like against Klitschko, I will conquer."

I hope he comes back stronger, would be good to see him beating Joshua.

I would say that he needs to say that he has retired from boxing, before his lineage can be considered vacant!

This has been the rule for about a century!
