It's an interesting hypothetical, but ... well he managed to avoid fighting Parker and Hrgovic, which directly resulted in Dubois x2

But yeah, he would likely have been forced to defend against a few more fighters by now

His mental health drive certainly attracted some unhinged fans, that's for sure

Fury never beat anyone in their prime who wasn't a bum or a hype job. His best wins were a washed up Wlad and Cunningham.

If he did that, still would have a thin resume, being nothing to brag about.

He would have been forever seen as ducking Usyk and got less credit then he does now.

He'd be rated about the same as he is now.
His stock went down badly with the Ngannou fight, but arguably twice going the distance with Usyk and giving him his closest, toughest fights at HW after the Ngannou fight, cancels it out.

Where are you getting 8 lineal defenses from ?

Fury won 5 title fights in total and made a grand total of 3 title defenses.

TBH I think the Usyk fights actually raised Fury's stock somewhat rather than retiring and ducking him.

Yeah Fury lost the Usyk fights but they were very competitive and the 1st fight was a very good memorable fight.

It's like Bowe for example his name is always associated for avoiding Lewis despite the memorable trilogy vs Holyfield.

If Fury retired not fighting Usyk ? He'd be seen similar as Bowe remembered for having a memorable trilogy but also for avoiding the best Heavyweight of his era.

I'd still rate Bowe above Fury because beating a prime Holyfield and some former champions is a bit more impressive overall for me.

But they'd definitely be seen as similar.

The Fury fights were similar to the Joshua fights in terms of competitiveness

Yes why wouldn't he be ?

Just because Bowe beat Holyfield doesn't necessarily mean he rates above him in the all time rankings.

Holyfield has a considerably better resume than Bowe and double the world title wins.

More or the less the same with more hypothetical room.

There would still be the size narrative how he would be able to beat everyone in history

    Depends on what sense.

Legacy sense - I see your point.

H2H/prime for prime - nope Riddick Bowe clearly trumps Holyfield there.

After beating Wlad he technically defended his lineal title 10 times. Though 1 was a draw and 1 should have been a loss.
