Then who do you think would've beaten tyson sooner or later? And what year do you think it would have happened?
Holyfield. He had next. It would of been better for boxing, rather than have fans wait while Tyson did time before facing Holyfield.
Honestly, I don't think there was anyone good enough on the landscape to beat Mike of the Ruddock fight. Lewis was too unrefined and Holyfield was too small. Maybe Bowe.
Who knows, I mean Tyson after the loss might of had a fire lit under his ass His weight got back down to 217 for Tillman he won by KO 1 in his next 2 fights and beat Ruddock twice. Sure his trainers werent as good but he seemed to be back on track A win over Douglas could validate his bad behavior and let him think he was still invincible and he may come in lazy or under prepared for someone different When I look at the 90's I see Holyfield and Bowe and Lewis and Foreman and Moorer and Golota and Morrison and Botha and Briggs and Mercer and so on. Do you guys really think he was running that gauntlet unbeaten? Do you really think Tyson was gonna be able to duck most of those names? He did fight some just not as close to his own prime except for the Holyfield fight
Had he bailed himself out with that that hail Mary shot I'm not sure he'd have rediscovered his form. Holy ko10
When he fought Douglas he wasn't putting himself through anything quite as demanding as the conditioning process that had made him look so impregnable in the past, he was being lazy in the gym, not running far enough, not training hard enough, believing his own newspaper clippings, and it showed in the fight, his defence was poor in the fight, Douglas was catching him with shots that he would have avoided had he been in the shape he'd be in for the Tubbs fight 2 years earlier. And yet he still almost pulled it out the bag like Marciano did with Walcott, awesome display of grit from Tyson, the one the of about him is you had to literally kill him to get him out of there, douglas final combination literally forced his body to the floor. I think if Meyran had stopped the fight in the eighth when Douglas went down Tyson would have thanked is lucky stars and knew he was almost out of it and prepared harder than ever for his Holyfield bout.
As for who would have beaten him it's hard to say because he lost four of what could have been some of his best years in the ring but I'm confident he'd have beaten Holyfield in a tough fight, knocked Bowe out pretty early if they fought but Tyson didn't really want to fight Bowe for personal reasons. He'd definitely have beaten the likes of Mercer, Morrison, Tua, Ibeabuchi who were all a tier below Tyson. The foreman fight would have been awesome to see but I see Tyson knocking him out the way he did Pinklon Thomas the first time Foreman is hurt. Holyfield almost stopped him and Tyson is a much more powerful puncher and better finisher.
Hard to say. Let's say he beat Douglas and then recommitted himself to training. He's still not likely to ko Holyfield, so does he win by decision or get frustrated? Or does Holyfield stop him? Hard to say but l do think that for the most part even when two fighters fight out of their primes, things like character don't change much so l think Holyfield would have found away to win.
At the least, if Tyson pulled out that Buster fight late, there would have been a wear and tear factor to deal with. There could have been a Douglas rematch. Or undefeated Commander Vander. Most likely 1 of those 2 guys. Then, there was Foreman. So lots of big money to be made. But those guys aren't Alex Stewart or Bruno or Carl Williams types Mike matches up with real well. Lots of rounds necessary to beat those guys. Digging deep to win. More wear and tear. Then you had the 88 amatuers coming up--Bowe/Lewis/Mercer. Ruddock was developing. Tua. Whole different landscape fighting the up and comers than the old guys going down the ladder. That wear and tear factor leads to a loss or most likely, losses---uping the ante and fighting guys of that ilk. And in addition to the wear and tear factor, you also have the not training as hard and thoroughly factor. That's just too much in the subtraction department to keep getting the W's.
I don't think character would be the major factor in the fight because the skill level and punching power of Tyson would be so much as to it not test it. A battle of skills rather than wills, and regardless Tyson wasn't giving up until you knock him senseless for 10 rounds.
