Lewis was peaking by 1996, where as Tyson was basically finished.

Holyfield was a very heavy underdog going in, he gets as much credit for beating '96 Tyson as can be acceptably given. Which is still quite high.

He did not ko a washed up Holyfield in two tries ,same goes for the fat one trick pony Tus,or Eurobum Mohawk, went life and death with trialhorse Mercer.....but was ko'ed twice by ham and eggers with one shot and it took him eight rounds to stop a dead Tyson mummy......If Lemmie wins it is going be by UD, be ain't taking any chances and will play it supersafe. If yourneyman McCracken and Hasbeen can crack that chin with ease then Tyson has the same opportunity .. so the natural conclusion is that Lemmie will stink the place out looking for points win.

Shocker, Lewis bludgeons him and knocks him out late.

Tyson had lost what made his special in his time in prison. Lewis was very much a special heavyweight in 1996/1997; He was blooming into the next great champion.

Tyson couldn't beat an old, immobile Holyfield. He's certainly going to find getting through a peaking Lewis to be a taller proposition.

I'd still pick Lewis over an 80's Tyson, but that Mike had the tools he'd need. He had the speed, the head movement, and the varied attack.

Coming forward trying to slip and counter with single, big shots was Tyson's whole game after prison, and all that'd get him against Lennox would be big shots upside the skull.

  9. Prime Tyson beats any Lewis. Lewis was great against the corpse of Tyson but would have had his glass chin busted if they met earlier. Tyson went to prison,he didnt duck Lewis. No one cared about Lewis anyway until the mid 1990's. The only guy Tyson was supposed to fight was Holyfield. Lewis was probably never even on his radar especially after Lewis was smashed by Oliver Mccall.

"Lewis reportedly has turned down $10 million to fight Tyson, who probably would get in the neighborhood of $40 million. King claims he offered Lewis $13.5 million."

``I felt I did enough to win,'' Lewis said. ``I'm telling you Ray Mercer has a tough chin. Ray Mercer gave me a lot of pressure. This was a positive step toward a Tyson fight. I'm not taking any easy fights. This was preparation for a Mike Tyson fight.''

As a matter of fact, it was the 6-1 1/2 Mercer who was calling for a fight with Tyson, the WBC champion.

``Me and Tyson have the same style,'' Mercer said. ``That's the fight the people want to see. I did the best I could, I didn't think I lost the fight.''

The win was Lewis' fourth straight since he lost the WBC title when he was stopped by Oliver McCall in the second round on Sept. 24, 1994.

Lewis, who has turned down $10 million to fight Tyson, was guaranteed $2 million Friday night"

Interesting quotes from IC's links. Well worth reading.

:goodFair enough. With Tyson's power he still has a chance motivated Lennox or not. Love both fighters and they're greats/ATGs.
