If Tyson was in shape, he would of crushed Douglas. He beat at least 4 heavyweights at that time that were better than Douglas.
He was undertrained more in the mental and skills department than physically which is pretty obvious.
That's the point, he wasn't in shape so he didn't do well in the early rounds. Tyson wasn't in shape physically and mentally yet still dropped Douglas with a single shot. Douglas was way into the fight and took advantage of it fully, he looked like he would fight the way he did for 20 rounds if he had to, Tyson obviously didn't expect that and got punished for it.
He was supposed to walk all over Douglas so he never really trained and he was enjoying himself out there, losing focus. Buster lost his mum (bless him) which probably put him in the mind set of "I don't give a flying ****, I will fight to help release the pain I have" The facts are, Tyson took him lightly and Buster was out to fight his best fight of his career. Tyson got his arse kicked.
Douglas' mind was everywhere but the fight. He had many problems and his mother had just died and the mother of his kid was ill. He had a breakdown before the fight and was in tears.
Tyson was outta shape for Douglas in Japan, but not a gross looking slob..... Tyson had soft tone to his muscles going into the fight.... But, his 220 pounds was good...... Tyson was mentally elsewhere... Tyson was also *****-whipped... Tyson's team of "Holloway and Snowell" sucked weenie, as well... Buster Douglas was well tuned at 231 pounds, and his skills were sharp as a Ginsu blade in Japan... Tyson's goose was cooked.....:bbb:deal MR.BILL:hat
Yep. Any other time in history, Tyson owns Douglas. The stars aligned that night for Buster. Just like they did for Byrd when he beat VITLAYS ass before the Klit-ites jump this thread and use this as an excuse as to why their guys would beat Tyson.....the simple answer is they wouldn't. Not even the Tyson that faced Douglas.
Tyson was ****ing his brains out in the Geisha houses over there. It was one big party, killing time until the furniture mover showed up for his beating. Tyson was always his own worste enemy.
Technically speaking, Douglas and Holy were probably the BEST tuned technicians at heavyweight in the world in Feb. 1990....... Ruddock was hot too, but he was just a "Smash" bomber on the whole.... And Foreman was a Tiger tank looking to destroy once again, but pretty slow with his shots.... Too bad "Big Bus" Douglas couldn't maintain his eye of the tiger after the Tyson massacre in Japan.... That Douglas was a force to be respected.... BUT! It was short-lived.... MR.BILL
The only fighter to lose his mythical uber-prime over night in his mid-20s for no apparent reason. But Tyson '88 KTFO1 everyone, rly.
