Ortiz calls everyone out and nobody wants it. He’s the opposite of someone like Parker who was hyped to the max but not that dangerous, and who everyone wanted a piece of. For those en route to a Joshua payday, Miller, Whyte etc he’s seen as a potential banana skin and not worth the risk, that much is obvious.

I agree he's the opposite of Parker! Parker actually boxes regularly and puts on a good show every time.
    Ortiz.....um......not so much.
Am I supposed to rate Ortiz because he 'calls out everyone' ? Pathetic argument from Wilder apologists, propping up Ortiz to bolster Wilder's only credible win.

Parker just fought someone called Flores, Miller just fought someone called Dinu. The rest at least had a good reason for their fights.

As a fan the way you are talking is disappointing . You speak like you are promoter working in the business. You don’t see one cent from these guys taking on crap fights so they can get a title shot, I would rather see Whyte, Usyk, Povetkin, Miller and Parker take on Ortiz. Than see them fight cupcakes and get a title shot.

Agreed on everything except the Garcia point, Even though I think Garcia is going for greatness I think he could easily go for greatness by fighting Loma and realistically win. Usyk can jump up and take on the top guys at HW because he has done his work in his division whereas Garcia is jumping up two divisons when he has a good legacy fight in his own division. His work isn’t done.

If you are ranked no.3 and you fight someone ranked no.6 you can get a mandatory shot by taking on the no.6 ranked guy. That’s typically how it works.

Ortiz is good and would be a good solid win for Usyk. He's probably the right sort of opponent for Usyk to acclimatise at HW with. Ortiz has skills and power but isn't too fast. Usyk should be able to box his ears off and it will likely go 12 rounds.

Usyk for me has to be the fighter of 2018 and given his accomplishments in a relatively short space of time, its perfectly reasonable to rank him no. 1 P4P. Beating Ortiz would certainly be a statement of intent.

Like stated several times already though, i feel that Ortiz is somewhat overrated based on beating one noteworthy opponent in Jennings.

Hes definitely a member of the who needs him club owing to the lack of reward in fighting him. His team really need to line up a top 10 opponent next or he will well and truly miss the boat

But you're putting Ortiz on a pedestal for taking on the most ''cup-cakey" run to a title shot out of any of the fighters mentioned! Irony much....
At least he got his shot, even if he ended up getting KOd.
Didn't see anyone saying Ortiz needed to fight a who's-who of contenders before getting his shot.....
    Double standards by Wilder apologists.
The current crop bangin' on Wilder's door have all achieved and earned more than Ortiz has or ever will so they can rightfully ignore his a55.

Ortiz tried to fight several guys and they all had excuses. Was he not the mandatory for AJ? Did he not try to Wlad and Lucas Browne for the WBA belt? Ortiz could be an old man who isn’t as good as I think but that has to be proven. If none of the top guys fight him, his ‘boogey man’ aura continues, if Usyk goes and dusts him off he gets credit for directly targeting the ‘boogey man’ and beating. Not beating guys like Sam Peters, Kevin Johnson and Hughie Fury, or beating guys like Dinu, Washington and Wach.

Wilder apologist? No. You’re projecting your fanboy bias here. I think Joshua beats Wilder, i just like to call it how it is.

Parker puts on a good show everytime, are we watching the same sport? Joshua, Takam, Ruiz Jr were all awful, negative fights from Parker where you could argue he went 0-2-1. Ortiz would demolish him.

    Pathetic really.
Why are you demanding so much more of everyone BUT Ortiz??? Ortiz has actually had a title shot, remember??
The logic that the old git down the pub is an indestructible bogeyman 'until proven otherwise' is the most ridiculous argument ever.

How about this: Ortiz is an old, immobile, non-threat to the active contenders of the division until proven otherwise.

Whether you think he is not a threat, do you agree he is of a threat than Dinu, Washington, Wach, H. Fury, ancient Sam peters and Kevin Johnson, Hammer, Rudenko etc? Why were all these guys good enough for those guys but not this old ancient bum who is better known than all of the names above?
