If Usyk fights on after Fury, he ought to abandon the paper IBF belt and fight Parker

Do you agree Usyk should fight Parker after Fury, if he fights on?

  1. Yes, it is obvious.

  2. No, he should waste his time with retreads and mediocrities.

I am assuming that Usyk will come out ahead of Fury after one fight or two. Of course we all know that the IBF is going to screw him and give his belt the winner of Hrgovic-Dubois, and there is news today that Joshua might be in line to fight the winner of that.

I say screw the IBF and their paper titles. Usyk is fighting for legacy, and has already beaten Joshua and Dubois. Hrgovic does not have the pedigree to be important. If Usyk is the better man against Fury, then he is the undisputed champ and will be until he losses in the ring. He doesn't need the IBF clownshow.

Nor do Wilder or Ruiz matter anymore. Wilder has been exposed, and Ruiz is a part-time fighter who never fully redeemed himself.

The ONLY guy who could add a point or two to Usyk's legacy, as things stand, is Parker. He is a former WBO champ who has stayed relevant, and now has the hot hand with the wins over Wilder and Zhang.

Screw the other names, and screw the IBF.

Yup. Only other one who would be viable has already lost twice to Usyk.

Finding ways to avoid your mandatories is what Wilder used to do. So, for me, I'm not going to celebrate Usyk for doing a different flavour of the same thing. The IBF have already been very generous with him

Parker, Hrgovic and Wilder are all acceptable to me as opponents assuming Usyk spanks Fury.

Boxing is so bad for allowing certain boxers to do what they want, but strip another one for not defending for 9 months.

Usyk has a powerful backing for keeping all the belts and fighting only once per year

If Usyk wins these two fights against Fury, victories over Hrgovic, Parker and Wilder would add to his legacy.

However he will have already twice beaten the next best two heavyweights and fully unified the belts.

If Usyk wants to continue, then he should start with his mandatory obligations. Go through them 1 by 1 while staying active.

Honestly Parker does nothing for Usyk if he beats Fury twice. Seriously, Parker avoided top fighters for years and then got dropped by Chisora and KO'd by Joyce, who isn't good. Only after that did he throw caution to the wind and fought Wilder and Zhang for big paycheques. One was shot at 38 and the other is hardly prime in his 40's. He exposed AJ, yes, but that's not hard because AJ is the most protected fighter in the sport.

Wilder is the only other fight Usyk could do to add prestige, even though Wilder is past it. It was Fury, AJ and Wilder who had the belts and biggest rep at HW so Wilder completes the set.

But he still has to beat Fury which is very hard, especially twice.

I understand if he continues fighting to avoid getting conscripted and killed in the insane Slav war (though I doubt they sacrifice him like that as it is bad morale to have your hero killed) but if he isn't forced to go to the front lines, he should retire from boxing before some idiot like Dubious lands another lucky punch, this time legal.

It’s not even an argument that the IBF are more favourable to Joshua/Matchroom than they have been to either Fury or Usyk ! Fury stripped by IBF for agreeing to rematch Klitschko despite the IBF knowing it was a stipulation in the contract should Fury win. Usyk v Fury winner to be stripped if they rematch after Undisputed fight again the IBF knows there is a rematch clause in the contract.Joshua lost to Ruiz but also had a rematch clause however Ruiz did not get stripped despite Pulev sitting waiting as IBF mandatory. Hearn had lobbied the IBF to say that Ruiz as the new Champion is entitled to a voluntary defence, that defence will be against Joshua .

There is a chance that Usyk humiliates Fury. Don't say it couldn't happen.

If so, Parker is the next logical opponent

Especially if the Saudi's are involved

Usyk will retire this year from boxing. He has done everything he wants to. He wants to retire and has said so. For him he sees a final challenge in Fury and that's all he wants now. He has nothing left to give or prove and same for Fury.

Fury? Fury just wants to fight but understands his body is no longer capable of the things it once was and as such he should retire but can't. Both him and Usyk should walk off into the sunset together. Fury might not follow though.
