If Usyk had gone straight to heavyweight as a pro, AJ and Fury are never champions.

Usyk came to HW to get a payday against a big stiff useless bodybuilder.

He won't be able to compete with Fury

& when that moment happens I don't want to hear excuses or backtracking.

Pre Ruiz AJ would have knocked him out. As for Fury, marone, forget about it!

Usyk was an Olympic gold medallist signed to K2, the cruiserweight division isn't flush with cash (making name matchups more necessary to generate money) and Usyk would have been regarded as being more beatable as a pro novice than he would be ten fights down the road. Loma (who turned pro at the same time) fought Salido for a world title in his 2nd full pro fight. Usyk has evinced a willingness to travel and accept a smaller purse split, so I don't think there would be stumbling blocks in those respects either.

It's very strange, wasting three years fighting no-names like that after you make your debut at 26. Could he not get a single name cruiser or heavy to fight him over that period?

If he could have he would have imo. Loma had Arum behind him.

Yeah sure, and guys like Jermain Taylor at Middleweight and Joshua at Heavyweight were KO sensations and looked better when they fought tomato cans and journeymen when they first started out. Then the first time they fought world class guys they didn't get those KOs so easily and struggled more.

That happens with most fighters when they move up to the world level or elite level unless they're murderous punchers and even then it still often happens to them

I was having a subtle jab at those who say Usyk can't punch. He can crack a bit for sure when he wants to. A bunch of his distance fights were against extremely tough and durable opponents. Fighters like Briedis, Gassiev and Hunter who have never been on the canvas, let alone stopped or KO'd.

Usyk did actually score a technical KD on Hunter but he's the only man to achieve even that

Chisora has been KO'd twice, been retired twice, but he's super teak-tough and has fought everyone and he fights with a super aggressive style and he had 40lbs on Usyk

AJ has been stopped but only once, by a much heavier guy who weighed over 20lbs more than him and like 50lbs more than Usyk who weighed a lot less than AJ

And the only other fighter to floor AJ as a pro is the murderous punching Wlad

That's 6 of his 7 distance fights there

Glowacki is the other and whilst he has subsequently been stopped a few times Usyk boxed to orders on his bike in that fight and didn't even try to get him out of there really

That would then mean that Usyk would beat Wlad before Fury and AJ beat Wlad. And that is already a special topic of "Usyk Vs. Wlad". Good idea...I haven't seen such a thread on the forum.
