Even being fan of Usyk - try to be the least bias and imagine he loses to Fury. Let's discuss it as if the other case.
Whats up with these dumb threads? Losing doesnt take away what you already done. Usyk is an ATG. Tfo with that Floyd zero gone = ruined logic.
I likely don't rate Usyk as highly as most, and tend to rate Fury rather highly. So my rating of Usyk won't change much due to a great smaller fighter not being able to beat a great gigantic fighter. A gigantic fighter that I'd only pick a couple fighters in all of history to beat. So no. His rating won't change much for me.
Just provoking the other side. There're plenty of stupid discussions, but on the other hand, a forum will be boring without such. @kirk size matters, I agree. If you know how to you use it. But similar thing was done by small fighters as well - use their size as an advantage. Still, I consider that at least in boxing, being smaller makes it a bit more difficult for a fighter.
Usyk's legacy is set regardless of whether or not he wins or loses. The mere fact he's one of the few cruiserweights to win titles at heavyweight seals it, plus he has beat good fighters when they were still good fighters.
I said it in the other thread about Fury, I'll say it again about Usyk here. Just the fact that the fight gets made will be great for the legacy of both guys, regardless of who comes out the victor. Having a loss doesn't automatically equate to not being that good, especially when it's against one of the other top two of a generation. At the risk of sounding like a fanboy for Usyk though, I feel like Fury might need the fight for his legacy just a little bit more. Yeah, Fury has spent his whole career at heavyweight where Usyk hasn't, but his resume is much too thin for a guy that has his kind of talent. Usyk's legacy is already cemented not just because of his cruiser run, but also because he's one of the few guys to move up to heavy and win a title. I like both guys as fighters, though yes it's safe to say I'm a bigger Usyk fan, I'm just saying that if both guys announced their retirement today or got killed in a plane crash or something, we'd have another Bowe-Lewis situation. Two immensely talented guys who should have fought but never did, one of which didn't show off his talent near enough.
The Usyk fan boys will just make excuses. Claim cheating, he had Covid, the moon was in the 6th house, etc. And they'll still say Fury is a bum, an undefeated universal lineal heavyweight champion bum. it appears when you start hugging dem huevos you can't stop.
Since he started at cruiser, he is ATG regardless. Seven wins against six titleists, first undisputed cruiserweight cahmp of the four-belt era, and a unified heavy. Only Fury has something to prove in this. You are a flat-out buffoon.
Prime Tyson got whooped up and stopped by Douglas but that still hasn’t diminished most people’s high opinion of THAT Tyson. People still have Prime Mike on their H2H all time top 5. And those two were close to the same size! I don’t see how Usyk losing to 6’9 270lb Fury would take away his ATG status. He’s still arguing the GOAT cruiser weight.
Nothing wrong of being a fan of whoever. It's just bad practice how some fans get blinded, while the way you express your thoughts is the proper one for a productive discussion. Yes, Fury needs few more fights to achieve the Usyk's legacy, it's not impossible, but has to beat him and face few other top 5, Joyce, AJ, Ruiz. And if it happens to beat Usyk who's ATG, he gets such "title" himself in a way. At the same time, if an ATG loses to a not that great, according to some, it's a bit of a shame. I know some people will get me wrong, so I have to write it again: whoever of them loses the fight, it'll be a bit sad for me.
Spoken like a true Fury fan. For what it’s worth, apart from a blatant robbery, I never cared for excuses. If it’s not a Lewis-Holyfield I type of result, it’s all good. One of the biggest problems in boxing fan communities is the attitude with regards a loss. 0 loss records can be meaningless. The quality of the opponents is much more important. Also, in my eyes, a champion seeking greatness has nothing to be ashamed of. That’s the brave thing to do: challenging the best opponents available and risking a loss. Any coward can go around beating up tomato cans to preserve an artificial record. That’s my problem with Fury too. He is an exceptional talent, yet he fights a voluntary title defence against an almost 40 year old, 12 losses Chisora while claiming nobody better was available. This is probably the biggest disgrace and the most dishonest thing I’ve ever seen from a reigning HW champion. If Fury was to clash with all of Usyk, Joyce, Joshua, Ruiz, Bakole, Parker, Hrgovic, Sanchez etc. and had a few losses while doing so, his legacy would be much stronger imo. A warrior champion always looking for the best fighters to fight is a true champion, even if they lose - and since boxing is a number’s game, sooner or later you will eventually lose if you fight all the best guys out there. There’s no such thing as an unbeatable fighter - never was, never will be. So no, even if Usyk would lose to Fury, he would be a true champion in my eyes who always looked for title fights and tough opponents, travelling to their country to fight them. Fury, on the other hand, has a paper thin resume and even if he beats Usyk, that won’t change much. At 35 with his talent and opportunities, he should already have fought all the top guys out there in the division Ali or Lewis style.
Completely agree. If he's as good as he likes to shout about then he should be trying to clean up the division. Lennox Lewis style, take a couple of loses on the way but went back and rectified the problem with a rematch. He is simply not anywhere near that level.
