As a fan, Usyk to me has earned the right to fight who he wants, when he wants, and I honestly won't give him too much crap for not fighting Parker and/or Kabayel at this point in his career even though I think they're the next best out there.
Honestly I don't even know what the belts do for him at this stage. Everyone knows he's the best whether he holds them or not.

What he hasn't earned is the right to pick and choose opponents and keep the belts. If he wants to hold them, he needs to defend them against his mandatories. End of story.
He picked his last fight instead of the mandatory that was ordered. Yeah yeah "unification" and all that. But it was still a comparatively limited, elevated "champ" that he'd beaten before and imo knew he could do a number on again.
He's had some grace and allowance from the WBO, but it can only go so far imo.

Time to face the champs obligations, or drop belts.

I agree with the OP but we can’t hold Usyk to any higher a standard than we’ve already witnessed.

Fury set the precedent with his cowardly hoarding of straps whilst picking which gatekeeper he’d “defend” against and dodging guys who had legitimate claims to a title shot.

The OP is right on principle but what they allowed Fat Belly to get away with was disgraceful.
