If Vitali and Wlad did fight today ?

Because he never quit on himself in a fight. He always got back up. Vitali quit on his stool in a championship fight against a featherfisted cruiserweight who presented ZERO danger to him with only 2 rounds to go well ahead on all 3 cards! All vitali had to do was go out there and stall/dance/do wutever for 2 more rounds...


Ironically enough...Evander Holyfield tore his rotator cuff in round 1 vs Chris Bryd. The 40 year old man proceeded to fight the next 11 rounds, while losing on cards, but never quit on his stool. 28 year old Vitali Quit.


It was the worst quit job i have ever seen in boxing history. To come so close to victory in such a big fight, then to just give it all up(your title and undefeated record)....shameful.

 

The way Vitali fights would not work with Wlad as Wlad is a master of jabbing and beating opponents at long range. Vitali's one dimensional style of keeping his hands low, and trying to lean back to avoid harm's way, will get him slaughtered against Wlad. Wlad is too tall and technical for Vitali's style to work.

Jabs will deter Vitali. Big Time. Vitali will not be able to take Wlad's power for a sustained period of time. Emanuel Steward said Wladimir is one of the hardest hitters he's ever seen. That he has rare one punch knockout power in both hands. Vitali won't hit Wlad, because at 38, vitali is far too slow, and Wlad is too technical hiding behind that high gaurd and solid fundamentals.

I think Wladimir beats a prime Vitali by decision. So At 38, Vitali gets massacred by Wlad. Wlad had a much easier time with Bryd, and defeated a whole slew of better contenders than Vitali beat.

 

Dude, the Hall of fame is full of fighters who quit, and in most cases quit with lesser injures that did not require surgery. Does your same belief apply to them too? Of course not. Your player hating, plain and simple.

Sugar Ray Robinson, Ezzard Charles, Roberto Duran, Jake Lamotta, Harry Wills, and Jack Johnson, and Sam Langford quit. Question there toughness you do not. Vitali retired because he feared for his career and knew something about sports medicine.

By the way, Marciano DQ'd himself when he gassed out and kicked a guy in either the stomach or the groin depending on the source. He wanted out once too, and he was not injured.

 

I honestly wouldn't want to see it happen personally, much as I dislike the pair of them brothers shouldn't fight...at least not as adults anyway.

As for who would win, I'd pick VITLAY but I do think it'd be a close one.

 

Ali and DLH both quit too, you forget them :hat Quitting isn't the problem, it's the circumstances that count against VITLAY what with him being in his prime and ahead on the cards at the time, it was a horrible quittage and having knowledge of sports medicine or it requiring surgery is not an acceptable excuse I'm afraid.

I believe Marciano DQ'd himself as an amateur didn't he? You always hate it when I bring up VITLAY getting KO'd by Maskaev as an amateur....

Interesting. It seems pretty clear to me that Vitali was/is the dominant brother. I saw one interview where Wlad admitted that Vitali is stronger than him, and that he'd been hurt by him in sparring. If they weren't brothers, if they didn't have this mental hierarchy going into the fight, I would give Wlad a better chance. There's no way he could go into this fight with the confidence to win. That said, if he went into the fight very confident, he'd probably lose too. ****! I don't see Wlad winning this. The other big deciding factor is the chin, and we all know there's a huge discrepancy here. If this fight happened today, I'd say Wlad has a 30% chance of winning. If it happened years ago, like 5%. I'm totally against them fighting each other. BUT: They should seriously consider filming some sparring sessions, just to satiate people's curiosity.

 

Everyone knows Wlad is the more skilled fighter of the two by a wide margin. In a fight like this, Skill and Talent matters. Wlad has a lot more of it.

Wlad is the more skilled and more talented brother, but Vitali is MUCH tougher, meaner and the more dominant of the two.




But this fight will never happen.

If they fought now, I think Wlad would outpoint Vitali.

Vitali is not the puncher people make him out to be. Wlad is big, leaning back won't keep Vitali away from Wlads shots.

 

Wlad easily, possibly by late KO.

Vitali isn't anywhere near the same fighter he was when he faced Lewis, that guy wouldn't have been taken the distance by Kevin Johnson and into the later rounds by Peter, Gomez and Arreola.

Wlad is in his prime, has a better jab and punches harder - certainly hard enough to push Vitali back.

 

My hunch is that we have already seen the best version of Vitally, while Wlad might not even have peaked yet.

Vitallys one tangible advantage at the moment is is chin and in the end, he would rely too heavily upon it.
