If Marciano hadn't been on the scene at that time and Walcott had met Ezz Charles Another Twice?

Charles later went on to give Rocky two difficult fights to a degree, could he have gotten his title back from old foxy Walcott??

I think Charles finishes the series stronger than JJW simply because JJW's decline was evident in 1952/53 whereas Charles' steep decline started in late '54.

There is a problem with the logic of the above in that Chasrles' & JJW's declines were both largely due to their fights with Marciano.

Using the OP's proviso that Marciano was not on the scene, both JJW & EC may have aged differently! had they not fought him...

    Very good points.
Yes, if not for Marciano, then both guys don't get those deadly, hammering shots fired at em.
I like the thought of Charles Gettin revenge over Joe, maybe Walcott ages fast and Charles figures him out, gets a decision.
It's hard to say, not much between em tbh.

Both fighters were past their sell date and still gave Rocky fits

If Marciano hadn't been on the scene, I think Walcott probably defends against Joe Louis.

Walcott-Louis III with Walcott as the defending champion would've been interesting.

Walcott most likely wins the rubber match.

    That's very likely.

If he did, that could very well change things a LOT, in terms of heavyweight history, if you think about it.

It may even change how highly Joe Louis is rated today.

The Charles-Louis fight is kind of brushed off because Louis had been out of the ring for more than a year and was coming back. (But Charles still gets a ton of credit by most.)

If Louis fought Walcott a third time, Louis was in the midst of a pretty successful comeback (an eight-fight winning streak).

If Walcott beat Louis in fight three, or stopped Joe, people might see Walcott as the true winner of the series between them going back to 1947.

Walcott may move up all-time. Louis may move down.

    It would definitely change things.
Not sure how much Louis would actually move down, but Jersey gets to go higher.
He'd have wins over Louis and Charles.
    Not a bad achievement.

I personally think that Walcott would have beaten Louis decisively, had he ever challenged him for the title, and that it might even as you say have been a stoppage loss.

That would have been a good feather in Walcott's cap.

I doubt that Louis would move down, because people would say that he was shot, and the rest of his record would be intact.

Clarence Henry was in the mix to for a title shot. Louis would have had to beat him

He did beat Louis in 1947

22 of 33 ringside scorecards were for Walcott

out of the 11, 10 of scorecards for Louis were New York newspapers..all heavily bias toward Louis

    Walcott won clearly

If Marciano isn’t around charles and walcott still would have had to get through Henry, Baker, Moore, Johnson, Valdes, Lastarza, Walls, Jackson and Layne.

    definitely not happening
