...but history remained otherwise unchanged, with Rocky claiming the title in a first round KO in the rematch and going otherwise unbeaten, how does your HW list change?

Walcott sits on the Title, Marciano fights Charles in an eliminator, wins and then claims the Title. And if all stays the same Marciano does not break the top Ten.

Walcott wouldn´t be moved but it would Marciano would drop a few spots. His unbeaten record is a huge asset and without it he drops down a bit. Walcott´s win wouldn´t mean tha much because Marciano wouldn´t be ranked that highly due to the loss.

Marciano drops from his current spot of 3/4 to about 6-10.

Jersey Joe breaks into my top 15 most likely.

Marciano drops in the rankings, to somewhere just above Brian Nielsen.

It wouldnt change a lot for Walcott to be honest.

His near win against Marciano confirmed what many had suspected e.g. that he was something special.

It would have ment more for Marciano because his 0 would go.

Perhaps a near win over the mystical invincible 49-0 Marciano, is better for your record than an actual win over the fine but lacklustre 48-1 Marciano.

It might be but you are up against the 49-0 Marciano.

Joe Calzaghe will not atempt to match that record to his credit.

In truth it doesn't affect Marciano as he will avenge his loss in the most dramatic way possible, but Walcott will move up in much the same way Frazier has for his win against Ali.

Walcott moves up base on the win.

Marciano stays the same, because he still clean out the divsion. And he still makes the top ten base on being the "Man" of his era like Dempsey was to the 20's or Louis to the 30's40's or Johnson for the 1910's.

Walcott had already beaten joe louis so beating rocky marciano would be the icing on the cake for a top 10 spot. I believe weill would be less cautious allowing rocky to take on more contenders so rocky would prob retire 55-1.

Both would rank in the top 8-12

Well since it was round by round, my card.

1, Walcott of couse. Knockdown, help.
2, Walcott again, though Marciano did stagger Walcott at times.
3, the tide turn to Marciano, Marciano took the round.
4, Other Marciano round, round ends with Walcott on the ropes taking a pounded.
    5. undetermind. Only seen what?? 4 sconds of the round?? But lets give it to Marciano base on the tide turning, and since most reports say Marciano was controlling this section of the fight.
6, Other Marciano round, cut over both fighters heads from headbutt. Walcott over the eye, and Marciano over the forehead.
7, I think I gave this round to Marciano, Marciano landed a booming shot in this round, other hard fought round.
8 Walcott takes over, Marciano of couse blinded.
9 Other Walcott round, Al even complains between 8th and 9th round.
10, Marciano takes round ten on heavy shots, landed a good shot at bell's end.
11, Big Walcott round. He had Marciano staggering around, and hurt. Only the ropes imo saved Marciano from going down again.
12, other Walcott round, he control the pace with his movement, though Marciano slip a lot of jabs.
13, the Ko round, Marciano round of couse.

6 rounds for Walcott to Walcott,
5 rounds to Marciano, with out round 13 and 5. Over all it was a pretty close fight imo.

REAL DUMB......I guess the real thing that bothers you so badly about Marciano is that he was white and beat a lot of great black fighters...too bad you are not color blind

Ali lost to Norton and came back to beat him( in some eyes)He did the same vs Frazier. Funny that I see people rate Norton so high because of those wins...Lewis was KO'd badly by 2 men but came back to beat them. I think if Marciano did that he still would be considered great but he would move down a few notches..One of his greatest assets was his refusal to lose and his will to win and the truth of the mattter is he never lost because of it. He was never really hurt in a fight and beat most of the people by wide margins, when he failed to ko an opponent or took to long to ko a fighter it is belabored, good for him it did not happen much.
