If Ward beats kovalev where does he place in the atg list of the last 30 years?

I think a win like that puts up there with the greats of recent memory considering some of the other top fighters he beat

I think it is still too early for him to even be an ATG. Frankly ATG gets thrown around too often on here. The Ward win will obviously be his very best and it would be a good start in the direction of being an ATG in the future. Right now his 2 best wins are a 50 yr old Hopkins certainly a good win because of Hopkins longevity but I would not say great. Hell Joe Calzaghe does not get credit for beating a 40 yr old Hopkins while both were past prime but It should be a great win for Kovalev when Hopkins is ancient and Kovalev is in his prime? His second best win is Pascal who is a very good fighter though not great.
Ward may be his first "great win" on top of some good wins. Though detractors will note Wards inactivity and that his best wins were a weight class below.

That is why it is usually best to determine a fighters status when the hype and hates dies down. You know after their career is over so it can be better digested.

No I'm talking about wards legacy not kovalevs, Kovalev has a long way to go before his in that discussion.

It will make him the best fighter in the higher weightclasses of recent times alongside Calzaghe

If, and he will not... Where do you put Ward now with his last notable win being FOUR years ago?

The winner of that fight will undoubtedly hold one of the absolute best wins in boxing dating back to 1986.

Has calzaghe in your opinion beat anyone more dangerous than Kovalev is at the minute, maybe Kessler but I don't think he even measures up to kovalev in terms of danger

Sorry Dilaudid is one hell of a drug. :D

It all depends how you rate his SMW competition and the fighters he fought afterward as tune ups and a weight drained Dawson. I thought he was on a path to greatness after the Super Six but that got derailed. A win against Kovalev puts him back on that path.

Ward's best wins to date Froch, Kessler and Abraham. The rest are B level at best.

Kovalev's best wins Hopkins, Pascal twice. The rest are B level at best.

There really isn't that much in the resumes.
