If Ward won the Olympic Gold Medal at 175, why does he refuse to fight Kovalev?

I was at the Monroe fight and as a big GGG fan I'm not buying that he was trying to show vulnerability. I doubt Ward "cracks his chin" but I'm incredibly confident in a comfortable UD for Ward.

Cassius Clay, Leon Spinks, Evander Holyfield all fought at 178 in the Olympics. They all became heavyweights.

Ward fought at 178 in the Olympics, and he turned pro at 154. That's insane.

That's also how pro weigh ins 30 hours before your fight have changed the game.

If weigh ins were the day of the fight, Andre Ward would be a cruiserweight right now.

they should make it where you have to make weight every day for the week leading up to the fight. that'll get rid of people dehydrating themselves to get an advantage.

He said he never was more than 170 during the Olympics.

any weigh in to prove it?

looks like he was avoiding the packed middleweight division during his amateur career and fought in a very weak light heavyweight division

The man was a 154 pounder who balloned up several weight classes to fight BIGGER and STRONGER men to test himself.

That's a true warrior right now, the embodiment of the American spirit. :D

The American spirit is WINNING despite the odds. Look at the number of Olympic medals by country and you'll know what I'm talking about. :deal

Soccer is slowly about to be taken over by Murica soon, once it has the backing of the entire country. You see how Murica dominates boxing and it's only the 10th most popular sport behind NFL, NBA, MLB, College Football, College Baskbetball, Hockey, Golf, Tennis, American Ninja Warrior then baaxing. :yep

Ward only fought at 178 because Dirrell was at 165.

    Ward never weighed over 170

    Ward debuted as a MW

Ward has never refused to fight Kovalev

Part of the reason Ward fought at 178 in the Olympics is so that he wouldn't have to compete with his cousin Donyil in the trials at middle.

But in any case, the amateur pool lacks the depth of the professional ranks. So being able to beat naturally bigger/stronger guys on the amateur level isn't exactly the same as doing the same on the professional stage.

I guess the shine of all that GOLD has made you semi delusional. It's okay though, Ireland still has the one woman boxer who won the gold at the Olympics. Forgot her name.

And didn't Kathy Duva state her and Roc are already in talks, and that she was optimistic the bout would happen some time in 2016? Sounds to me as if both parties are game, and that they're just doing the usual paces in hopes of making it a little bigger in scope.

ya I think ward avoided dirrell and the middleweight division

that middleweight division was packed, you had Andy Lee, Jean Pascal, HNN, Golovkin,Dirrell, Gaydarbekov, Despaigne, Abdurahmanov, Alfredo Angulo, Simion, Balzsay, Prasathinphimai

it made more sense for ward to compete in the weak 178 division
