at being one of the greatest fighters of this era. what I saw during, before and after the bika fight was a guy who, aside from taking on the toughest super middleweight available when he didn't have to, 1. realizes that he has to continue to perfect his craft in order to become great, which he intends to do. 2. a guy who, although a gentleman, has the hidden mentality and will to gladly accept a dog fight, and take some to give some. 3. a guy who is very intelligent in the ring both on the inside and the outside, who still only has had 23 pro fights. let's talk objectively, can he be one of the greatest of this, or any other future era? if he continues to get big wins at supper middleweight, I don't see why not.
Best of an era in SMW or in boxing in general? Ward is obviously a very talented fighter, and he has was it takes to get very far. For a guy with only 23 pro fights he has also taken on quality opposition already. That being said, I still think he needs to prove himself out of Oakland with a hostle audience and a ref that is a little less friendly towards his style. And to one of the best of an era, he still have a lot of mileage to cover. IMHO it is a bit premature to predict that he will be one of the best of this era.
he is the new hopkins - fighting dirty in front of home town judges against b rated fighters. a slick ricky hatton.
If you read it again, you'll see that I fall short of predicting that he'll be one of the best of this era. also, the reason I didn't make it clear whether I was talking about him being one of the best of this era or of this era in super middleweight is because I think the two are synonymous. If he conquers the super middleweight division by beating abraham, froch, dirrell and bute, he'll be one of the best of this era, period.
Greatest of his era?nutnutnut Give me a break we talking about a boxer who wont fight outside his hometown. And the only good boxer he has ever beat is mikkel kessler that was injured so plz come on
If he beats Abraham, Foch, and Bute in consecutive fights in addition to what he has already done, I have no doubt he'd go down as one of the best super-middleweights ever, with perhaps Calzaghe being ahead of him.
What the **** is up with all the Ward nuthugging on this forum? Yes, he's obviously a talented fighter but why does everyone get so carried away?I seem to remember all the same talk about Williams, Pavlik and even danny Jacobs!!! Let's just wait and see shall we. I mean the guy hasn't even had 25 fights or fought a fight that wasn't set up for him to win as of yet. I'm not saying he won't, I just can't take all this hysteria. Soon somebodys got to come up with a comedy nickname for all his fans like the *******s are for pacquiao.
Let's see him fight with a neutral referee who won't let him butt, hold and elbow. Let's see how he gets on then.
