Lee and Eubank Jr share the same trainer Adam Booth, so he may of been abreast of these developments. I know Lee isn't with Hearn but Im sure something could have been arranged as Adam Booth has a hand in promoting Lee's fights.

To be honest there's only 4 fights left at MW for Golovkin and they're Lee, Jacobs, Saunders and Eubank Jr. Eubank has clearly already chickend out so he should fight those 3 and move up regardless.

Loudon, I respect your opinion, but I feel that GGG did have other options for September, e.g.:
    - Callum Smith at 168, also promoted by Hearn. He might not take it but at least offer it to him before Brook.
    - Andy Lee is a world-level 160 lb who has always said he'd be willing to fight GGG. He's never ducked anyone so I tend to believe him. He shares the same trainer as Eubank Jr too.
    - A longer shot, but Korobov is also a good 160 who I think would take the GGG fight. They were close to fighting in April when IBF ordered Wade.

Basically I feel that K2 are screwing Golovkin's legacy, Loeffler talking of match GGG with Tim Bradley, it's just nonsense.

Nah. It's just a bad example cos of the 32lb difference between CW and SMW, otherwise your point is valid. Also I believe Loeffler mentioned that a CW might have been considered but Brook wanted 160 (scene.com/golovkins-promoter-brook-wanted-160-no-catch-weight-talk--106475).

And yeah, the fight's a turd pie, but the TS is likely right, with the September date fast approaching it's likely there would have been no fight or at best some 2 week notice TBA MW no-hoper.

Given the timescale it pretty much had to be someone in Hearn's stable. Degale's reportedly aiming for the Jack fight but Mundo would have been a good call. Lee or Korobov would undoubtedly have been better fights but at this juncture I think it'd be too late to start negotiations.

    I respect your opinion mate.

I'm only defending this fight due to the circumstances. That's all.

I was happy with a keep busy MW fight against Eubank. It was a decent fight giving GG the chance to fight in England in a big PPV fight on HBO's proposed date. Then we had the fallout from Friday, where it appears as though Eubank Snr's ego went into overdrive. Then Brook pushed for the fight and accepted the same terms under the same date.

Again, I respect your opinion. But under the circumstances, it wouldn't have made sense to pursue those other fighters you have listed.

Callum Smith was never an option. HBO's date is in 9 weeks, and GG has made it clear that in his current position, he won't move up to 168 until he's accomplished his MW goals. He certainly wouldn't make his SMW debut with only 9 weeks notice. Then you have to look from Eddie Hearn's perspective. Callum is working his way nicely up the SMW rankings, with potential fights against Groves and DeGale on the horizon. There's no way Eddie would have made that fight, especially in a hurry. He's an astute businessman. It wouldn't have made sense to have tried to have put that fight together.

Andy Lee and Koborov are good fighters. But would it have made sense to refuse a big PPV fight that HBO were happy with, to have pursued Lee or Koborov instead? In my opinion, no.

Again, it's all due to the circumstances. Given the choice, I'd rather have seen him fight Lee instead. But if I was in his teams shoes on Friday afternoon, there's no way I'd have tuned down Brook with everything agreed to, to try to have fought Lee instead.

You have to try and see things from his teams perspective on Friday. A lot of people are missing the point and don't appreciate the business side of things. There's a lot of people saying he chose Brook over Lara etc. When the truth is, he chose Eubank over Lara, and Brook is only a replacement, but a replacement that probably makes more money, under the same terms, under the same date.

HBO's date is 9 weeks away. He obviously has to start camp soon. So it makes no sense to turn down a great guaranteed offer, to give themselves about a week to try and better it.

    Bingo!

Regarding Smith, GG wasn't going to suddenly decide to make his SMW debut with 9 weeks notice, and there's no way Eddie was going to put that fight together. It makes no sense from his perspective. He's expecting big things from Callum who's currently in a great position. A promoter takes calculated risks, not foolish ones that can harm one of his best prospects.

I couldn't disagree more. And I think you are misunderstanding me. He's not chasing Hopkin's career greatness. He's only chasing the MW record.

Breaking that record will get him in the HOT. You can disagree and that's cool. But I believe the record punches his ticket.

When some people realise this fight is worlds apart from canelo khan the boxing world will honestly be a better place.

    Brook is nothing like Khan
    GGG is nothing like Canelo.

Both are better than than the two who fought in May.
    Both are Undefeated.
    Sky Sports Box Office.
    Should be HBO PPV IMO.
And Brook is honestly a big big welterweight and come fight night people will see how natural he makes the 160 weight. Its not like Khan who started at LW. Khan is still small for 147 and was always forcing the ''I'm natural at 155 pounds'' statement.

The only way this fight won't be competitive is if GGG is actually the world beater people say he is. Lemeuix lasted quite a while even after taking a lot of bombs. I'm looking forward to the fight personally.

That's a well thought post, thanks for taking the time to reply.

Slightly off-topic, I guess you would still agree that Loeffler talking about Tim Bradley as a future GGG opponent is utter nonsense? I lost a lot of trust in K2 when I saw that official Loeffler tweet.

    Basically, this.

I think that Hearn had had just about enough of CE Snr dictating the grade and softness of the toilet paper in the restrooms along with everything else and had to find a substitute ASAP. Ergo, Brook.
