You are living in a dreamworld if you genuinely think that. You would be pushed to even put boxing in the top 10 biggest sports right now so if you think a restructuring would bring in billions of new fans then you’re wrong.
The rest of the world has no idea who won the US "World series" (i mean...ffs...) of baseball. But they know Tyson fury. The rest of the world dont know who Crickets world champs are... but they know Tyson Fury. Same with golf, Tennis, swimming, sprinting, etc, etc, etc. THE WHOLE WORLD KNOWS WHO THE HEAVYWEIGHT BOXING CHAMP OF THE WORLD IS...! AND THEY KNOW WHO THE MOST FAMOUS ATHLETE IN ANY SPORT EVER WAS!!!!
I can assure you there are plenty of people who have no idea and don’t care who he is. The IPL final had over 30million people watching it with nearly 400million watching the group stages. The last football World Cup final was watched by over a billion plus both events play to pretty much full stadiums. Fury’s last fight had a supposedly did around 300k-400k on tv plus the 94k in the stadium. Boxing is way way behind the global top sports, so far behind it’s not even worth a comparison.
I like the UFC, but a lot of casuals or people just getting into the sport don't like or get the grappling. Boxing does have it's stinkers occasionally, but you don't have to apricate all the nuance to enjoy a fight. If there was one organisation that truly took over boxing, the sport would be huge. Instead we have corruption, fighters avoiding each other, dodgy decisions and the inflated value of world titles because there are so many of them. Unfortunately it will never change, unless some trillionaire buys the WBC,WBA,WBO and IBF, melts the belts into one, buys Golden Boy, PBC, Matchroom, Top Rank, Queensbury and all the other big promotional companies and starts up a global boxing commission.
I love boxing but if football is Tesco's then every other sport is no bigger than the cornershop. UFC had a burst with casuals and Connor McGregor fanboys but you can't really build a long term business on those guys because they move on to the next thing. It's like here in Wales, people think rugby's bigger than football but hardly anyone watches rugby clubs play and the international matches are full of p1ssed women on hen nights and other assorted idiots. The Welsh football teams matches are full of families and loads of kids in particular. There's hardly any kids at rugby internationals cause the ticket prices are so high as it's their only real source of income .p
