You are missing the point here. While Shkor was not a world beater, the fight might give us an insight into what strategy Marciano might have used against a superheavyweight.
No matter, the point is Foreman was fighting Terry Sorrell and Clarence Boones as a leading contender. Boone was a far better trainer than he ever was as a boxer. In 1965, already sporting a record of 2-11, Boone was the carefully hand picked knockout victim for the manufactured Dave Ziggy Zyglewicz third ever fight after he left the navy. And yet, much later, In 1972 the older, 3-24, poor Clarance Boone (that poor man!) had lost 13 more fights and was served up for 33-0 #1 rated George Foreman. It hardly seems fair!! Why is it so bad that Rockys 17th opponent was such a walk over when Foremans 36th fight was even worse?? The appalling 4-14 Terry Sorrell had recently lost to a 1-3 guy!! In his 1958 "prime" sorrell was knocked out by a 7-14 guy! Marciano beat Joe Louis, Lastarza and Rex Layne before challenging for a title. I can't think what is so bad about that in the years those guys were rated contenders? In Foremans 65th fight he was fighting 15-16 Mike Jameson who had not fought in three years!!!
I haven't attacked Rocky's opposition, just attempted to put a blatantly ,partisan agenda driven post into perspective Foreman was 41 years old in that fight,do you think that might have some relevance?
Foreman had a weight, height, talent and activity advantage over the three year retired, seven fight losing streaker 15-16 Mike Jameson. It more than makes up for being a mere four years older than a three year retired ham and egg journeyman! since George was fighting 19 times since Jameson last fought, had already knocked out Gerry C00ney and would knockout Aldison Rodriguez in his next fight its safe to say George had well and truly reached his "comeback peak" making this an appalling mismatch against poor Jameson.
I'm happy to acknowledge Rocky had weight on some opponents. He was outweighed the vast majority of the time. I am certain George Foreman however, enjoyed enormously unfair weight advantages over the vast majority of his opponents.
He wasn't out weighed the vast majority of the time at all. If you are a heavyweight what is unfair about conceding weight? Foreman fought a hell of a lot more 200lbs + fighters than Rocky did,of that I am positive. He only defended against one 200lbs fighter and that was glandular ,ex lhvy C*ckell, can we get real here?
I can’t get particularly worked up about a champion taking a few easy fights on their way up to the title, if that is what they wish to do. Nobody forces the guys with losing records to fight them. What matters to me is what they do once they hold the title, and in that respect Marciano was irreproachable.
