If boxing were the way it should be, with one title per weight class, and competitiveness outweighing greed, the current crop of fighters could give us some nice showdowns. Now I'll admit that boxing has improved over the last 6 months, with such fights as Calzaghe-Kessler, Taylor-Pavlik, Mormeck-Haye, Pac-Barrera2 and Floyd-Hatton, but we still have a ways to go before the sport can hold its head up high. Here's the way I would arrange things if I were in charge:

    HEAVYWEIGHT....Champion: Wladimir Klitschko
    Mandatory: Ruslan Chagaev
Fight for right to become next Mandatory: Ibragimov-Maskaev

    CRUISERWEIGHT......Champion: David Haye
    Mandatory: Steve Cunningham
Fight for right to become next Mandatory: Mormeck-Bell3

    LT HEAVYWEIGHT.....Champion: Bernard Hopkins
    Mandatory: Joe Calzaghe
Fight for right to become next Mandatory: Dawson-Erdei

    SUPER MIDDLEWEIGHT.....Champion: VACANT
    Mandatory: Kessler-Lacy
Fight for right to become next Mandatory: Mundine-Bika

    MIDDLEWEIGHT........Champion: Kelly Pavlik
    Mandatory: Arthur Abraham
Fight for right to become next Mandatory: JTaylor-Sturm

    JR MIDDLEWEIGHT..........Champion: VACANT
    Mandatory: Forrest-DeLaHoya
Fight for right to become next Mandatory: CSpinks-Alcine

    WELTERWEIGHT..........Champion: Floyd Mayweather Jr.
    Mandatory: Miguel Cotto
Fight for right to become next Mandatory: PWilliams-Margarito2

    JR WELTERWEIGHT.......Champion: Ricky Hatton
    Mandatory: Junior Witter
Fight for right to become next Mandatory: Malignaggi-Torres

    LIGHTWEIGHT..............Champion: Juan Diaz
    Mandatory: Joel Casamayor
Fight for right to become next Mandatory: DDiaz-Raheem

    JR LIGHTWEIGHT...........Champion: Manny Pacquiao
    Mandatory: Juan Manuel Marquez
Fight for right to become next mandatory: Guzman-Valero

    FEATHERWEIGHT............Champion: Chris John
    Mandatory: Jorge Linares
Fight for right to become next mandatory: Guerrero-HSoto

    JR FEATHERWEIGHT..........Champion: Israel Vazquez
    Mandatory: Rafael Marquez
Fight for right to become next mandatory: Caballero-Ponce de leon

    BANTAMWEIGHT..............Champion: VACANT
    Mandatory: Hasegawa-Sidorenko
Fight for right to become next Mandatory: Penalosa-Gonzalez2

    JR BANTAMWEIGHT............Champion: VACANT
    Mandatory: Montiel-Mijares
Fight for right to become next mandatory: Arce-Darchinyan

    FLYWEIGHT......................Champion: VACANT
    Mandatory: NDonaire-Naito
Fight for right to become next Mandatory: Wonjongkam-Sakata

    One can dream...

And why is Hopkins the champ?

And spare me the "Ring belt is the mecca blah blah" crap. Beating a shitty looking Tarver and a fat Winky, does not a light heavy champ make.

(BTW, I agree about Joe C too).

Lacy as the second best super middle?

    Otherwise, not too bad really.

(I can see a flood of "where's Sam Peter" posts coming up though.....)

Mundine. He just beat a plumber last night, so he seems qualified.

Really, Kessler + Mundine + Bika + Bute + Lacy (if given time to come right?) There are some reasonable fights to be made in super middle if they want it.

There is no champion at LHW....and if it were Hopkins, Dawson would clearly be his mandatory, not Calzaghe who has never fought there.

So many haters on Jeff Lacy. Like it or not, he's one of the best fighters in that division. And yes, that is sad for the division.

No criticism of Hopkins as light heavyweight champion please. Going into the Tarver-Hopkins fight, TARVER WAS THE LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION! He's beaten Jones, he'd beaten Glen Johnson. He was the man. And against all odds, Hopkins beat him. That fight made him light heavyweight champ regardless of the alphabet soup. I consider Hopkins-Wright to have been a light heavy defense.

I can accept criticism of Calzaghe as the light heavyweight mandatory, but I think he's earned the right to compete outside of super middle and be entitled to a title fight.

    A very good start.

I don't agree with all your placings, but I like the concept.

Isn't that just the Ring champs?

I'd be happy with that one as the "one champ" policy.

Cotto has done nothing at WW to become the Mando. Winner of Williams-Cotto for Mando spot IMO.
