Think about it, the best 2 fighters of the last decade Manny & Floyd fight at or around the same weight they weigh in at.

I guess some might try and stick on a few lbs, but it's likely to be a losing proposition. Any weight advantage gained is likely to negated by the by the bodys inability to recuperate fast enough

BTW I'm firmly in favour of same day weigh-ins, though I'm well aware of the safety arguments on both sides.

Hmm. I like the idea of the thread BTW but it's actually really hard to know who could make what weight and how a slight increase or decrease would effect each fighter since fight weight information is so scant.

Obvs Floyd would rule 147 and 154 - maybe even 160 if GGG was unwilling to fight that low (I think GGG would prefer to fight at 168/175).
Froch would still be in the 168/75 mix as he currently fights around 172/3.

Ward - hard to say, I think he's pretty big on fight night (like 180+ similar to some LHWs) but I could be wrong. I'm sure he would be fine at 175 though

Stevenson as a ex SMW would probably fight at 175, but Kovalevs already pretty lean fighting at 183/4and might have to compete at cruiser.

Cruiser's a tricky one, cos its such a big class, but I reckon most of the guys at the top aren't fighting much above 200 anyways and would probably just fight a little lighter so possibly Huck.

    HW remains uneffected obvs.

At the lower weights I'm even less sure of the likely changes, though there's a coupla standouts (like Rigo) who are already fighting around or above their 'natural' class.

It would force them to either move up or be more disciplined and keep their weight down. Fighters really shouldnt be more than 7-10 pounds than where they fight at. Notice how the older fighters lasted longer because they took care of their bodies.

Thanks, and that was the point of this thread. I wanted to take the discussion that we tend to have around here away from the underlying racist and nationalistic BS that we are seeing lately.

I know it info is hard to come by on how much fighters weigh on fight night but i know that the info is out there. I thought it would be interesting to speculate if fighters fought at the weight they truly weigh who would win. I never thought it would open up the debate on same day weigh-ins (even though that is also very interesting).

I some one stated earlier it is interesting that the best fighters today fight around their walk around weight. he said Floyd and Pac but you would also have to include Bhop in that mix as well

    135- Uchiyama/Mikey
    126- Rigondeaux
    168- Sergio/Golovkin
    160- Lara/Alvarez/Golovkin

I don't know, when it comes to the divisions you just bump a fighter up one when envisioning this, pretty much. Everybody would just be sapped out of a touch more energy but I don't see every fighter, especially higher up, being two whole divisions higher.

Discipline would become that much more important.

Exactly. The theory of weigh ins the day before was to prevent dehydration and brain damage. If they cut the # of divisions in half and had same day weigh ins just imagine the matchups you could get. Donaire, Salido, Mares, Chris John, Mikey Garcia, Rigondeaux, Santa Cruz all in the same division?!

Instead you get guys like Bum Jr. pretending to be a MW with the help of Texas and diuretics instead of being the Cruiserweight he is.
