would he still be an ATG fighter in your eyes? Would that loss move him out of the top 50 boxers of all time? Some have him anywhere between 15 - 30 it seems.

He would drop pretty radically if he got straight-up beat, sure. The point with Whitaker is nobody could get close to beating him in his prime. If that wasn't the case he would be impacted defo.

yeah for me pea's greatness is based on how amazing he looked in his prime (i have him #2) if he lost to chavez i couldn't place him that high.

Ya i agree he would drop drastically.

The Chavez schooling is his greatest accomplishment IMO.

And to flip the question around a bit, how far high would Chavez rank had he managed to beat Whitaker clearly??

Couldn't have said it better big Mcgrain and luf. I was just curious as some still might have him up pretty high based on his other wins. However, I do agree

It would hurt his stock and raise Chavez's stock.

    Well...
    Even fight Prime Oscar
    W Vasquez
    W McGirtx2
    W Nelson
    W Ramirez
    W Haugen
+ Looked very impressive in his 135lb career
Still well in the top 50 but the win against Chavez changes a lot!

    Chavez would be a demi-god.

Neither one of them earned or lost anything with me.

Whitaker and Chavez both were passed there primes. At Welter against the all-timer at the weight they don't stack up.

Whitaker proved that he could do it on the big stage but his wins up to take point already proved that he was an all-time great. The same wit Chavez. I don't even think of the Taylor bout with Chavez. The Taylor bout increased his legend like the Chavez bout increase Whitaker but there were both established great at the time they fought.

Chavez was past his best at WW. But had he beat Pea, it would defitnitely have immortalized him.

The only thing Chavez has immortalized is his status as King Of The Can Crushers.

He would still be one of the greatest lightweights of all time.
