If Wilder does fight Washington, I will give him some credit

    First off:

    A) Wilder's entire career up to this point has been a fraud, with zombie squashing, dives, and "world title" reign with opponents who are not top ten or even twenty heavyweights

    B) If Povetkin is cleared, then Deontay needs to fight him or be stripped.

    C) Gerald Washington is no world beater. He is a big clumsy guy who struggles with midget heavies.

    ALL OF THAT NOT WITHSTANDING...

Washington has earned a shot at something bigger by beating a legit fringe contender in Mansour, and a legit former top contender in Chambers. Tank Williams, Walker, Aguilera and Gavern were also good victories.

I am old fashioned in that I think title shots should be earned, and Washington has certainly done more than someone like Briggs or Haye has done in years.

Also, since he is 6'6" and can punch a bit, it is an asthetically good fight and just a bit dangerous, though Deontay should still win it.

Make the fight, and I will pay Wilder a compliment.

That's literally the least he should do.

I can honestly say that I haven't seen him fight. Is he any good? Is it a step up for Wilder in terms of opposition?

I doubt he is better than current Arreola.

Wilder needs to step up and fight King Kubrat Pulev.

Washington is ****... But far better than the corpse of Arreola at this point. This would be a slightly better fight...

He is. "current Arreola" is not much better or worse than he ever was - simply C level. Washington would have been an acceptable substitute fight for the Povetkin debacle (which was not on Wilder obviously). Washington is heads and shoulders above Arreola at this point.

He should already have a loss to Amir Mansour

Why? He struggled badly with Aguilera, who Arreola knocked out in 3. He lost to Amir Mansour. He outboxed the much smaller and shot Eddie Chambers.

He didn't beat him though, he drew. Drawing with a Middle aged man and beating an irrelevant for half a decade Chambers shouldn't really give you a title shot.

And Nagy! His win over Chambers means nothing as Eddie had lapsed fully into 'sparring partner' mode and was only there to survive and collect a check.

50 year old Tarver would pose a bigger threat to Wilder than any of these clowns. Would be pretty easy to promote too. Easy to compare Tarver to Foreman and mention his performances against Banks, Cunningham as evidence that he would be a live body here.

Washington did not look great to me against the man formerly known as Fast Eddie Chambers. Too stiff and not willing to let his hands go against a guy there to be taken.
Arreola is a shell of himself but still has a punchers chance. That being said, his best bet would be to jump on Wilder from the opening bell and take his chances in the first 2-3 rounds because he won't survive down the stretch.
