It does indeed open up the main route Ruiz has towards a victory, I agree with that. I agree with this too. I just think he'll likely win even if he goes about hunting for the KO - like @northpaw I don't feel this is a good stylistic matchup for Andy.
Wilder may go in there and blitz out a spectacular KO over Ruiz, but if that does'nt materialize for Wilder and Ruiz has weathered that blitz and is now in a rhythm getting inside Wilders distance and landing in combination using his handspeed, that type of rhythm and momentum is hard to stop once it gets going. Not only would Wilder have expended himself trying to take Ruiz out of there, but now he's dealing with having to go to plan B and using his jab while in a tired state from having expended so much energy trying to take Ruiz out of there. Game planning is so much more important that even alot of boxing fans realize. A failed plan A often leaves that fighter vulnerable in trying to implement a plan B.
LOL. Ruiz is not 6'2''. it seems as though the majority of heavyweight heights are inflated. Ruiz is somewhere are 181cm/182cm, between 5'11'' and 6'.
"If Wilder uses his jab". You should know by now that Wilder's not that kind of fighter. He's not fundamentally sound enough to jab his way to a win. He's more of a knockout artist. The Fury fights showed that if Wilder can't knock his opponent out, he has no Plan B.
If you think about it, Ruiz has all the attributes you need to beat Wilder. Technically proficient, fast hands, throws good combinations, decent power, solid chin. I still think Wilder wins but fat Andy has a better chance than most of beating him.
I respect Andy Ruiz. His gameplan for Anthony Joshua's 1 fight was genius; and patient (I have to fight from the inside; close combat, but I can't attack. So I have to lure AJ close). We will see if Andy Ruiz will have a gameplan of such quality for Wilder. And Wilder should just do what he's always done, and not underestimate Andy Ruiz.
I'm worried Ruiz might actually try and eat Deontay at the press conference. Let's just hope fatso has been well fed.
I think Wilder wins this easy. Ruiz does have a chance though.... in the clinch. Or more accurately, avoiding the clinch and coming up with a right hook to the temple area. He knocked down Aj and Ortiz this way and Deontay is weak in that area since Fury caved his head in. Wilder's chin is still decent, but that temple area above the ear is his off switch now.
Has Wilder a jab? Since when? It occurs to me that Beyonce has not jab. Lennox and other tried in vain to teach him how to use the jab but hes a dunkey. You cant teach fundamentals to a dunkey above all at that age. He just uses the left hand to displace the guard from his opponent's face and explode one of his gunshots with the right hand. Usyk and Joyce have a strong jab.
