He has been a few untrustworthy fights in the last few years. Not saying he's the only one at heavyweight. I still doubt the fury Vs wlad result. And the AJ stoppage against Takam was suspect. Either way. I personally think Ortiz has skills, wilder has none, so it will be interesting to see the result.
Yes, i think people are really underestimating Ortiz maybe because it gives them an excuse to hate on Wilder. I'm a critic of Wilder, crazy to think he hasn't fought anyone world class level (other than stirvine 1) but Ortiz is a good opponent and you have to respect Wilder for that even if you hate the guy. I'm still skeptical that the fight even happens until the bell actually rings!
I think..In a lets say non political fight, i'd have Wilder by decision or late TKO.Wilder is really athletic and has a great engine.I can see a Stiverne 1 type of fight, with Ortiz doing a bit better early..Yes Wilder is stepping up finally, but I feel at this stage Ortiz is just slowing down and struggle to get near Wilder if Wilder keeps it at range until Ortiz tires. If its a Stiverne 2 or a Scott,i think questions will be asked.
I think the OP is a little confused. The reason why Wilder doesn't get that much love or respect on this forum has nothing to do with his boxing ability.. It is because he acts like a complete ****en tool 99% of the time and thinks he is a gansta plus he has a over inflated view of his place in boxing history not to mention the poor resume he back this all up with... No matter what he does he rightly should get any credit because of the above...
If you hear what most people say about him, there usually talking about his windmills, glass chin and poor opposition. So you may only criticise his behaviour outside the ring but your not the majority.
I really doubt this will be like Stiverne 2 or Scott, Ortiz is on his last opportunity so he will come to win. In terms of Ortiz keys to victory he needs to throw body shots, take Wilders legs away from him. A chess match favours his style with the southpaw jab and counter punching ability. Wilder needs to move early on like Scott did, have Ortiz chase him around behind the jab, then when Ortiz tires throw some heavy bombs and try get him out of there.
It would be a good win, I repeat, it would be a good win. It's not a great win and it wouldn't make him number 1 in the division, Wilder is finally doing what a Heavyweight World Champion should be doing and fighting top 10 fighters.
But that will happen later, agreed though. Wilder's stock definitely rises with me IF he beats Ortiz, even if it's by the skin of his teeth. He just hasn't proved his level against solid enough opposition but so long as its a legit win I give him full credit - this has been discussed however. But yeah, when the Parker vs Joshua fight happens that becomes the new best win in the division... so it'll be short lived.
Ortiz is not in his prime, he is better than all of Wilders previous opponents and is still a danger even at the age of 67. I'll give him credit if he demolishs him. If he doesn't look good but wins he's still done what he has too do. It's all about the W in this sport, but if Wilder is as good as his fans say he should walk through Ortiz
