As the best heavyweight (even though it will arguably his personal best win)? No. Likewise if Ortiz wins he isn't the best just for beating Wilder, either. AFAIC this is a h2h #4 vs. #5ish type match-up in the division.
I wouldn't classify myself as a 'Wider hater.' However, it's a long time since someone got so much hype (and a belt) on so little by way of accomplishment. He has two wins over Bermane, who was his best scalp, but not elite. That's pretty much it. So he's done bugger all so far that would match the hype. My personal take on the division is Joshua, Povetkin, Ortiz, Parker and Wilder, in that order. So if he legitimately beats Ortiz like he did Bermane, I'll certainly give him due credit for having beaten a top level name.
As long as its indisputable that Ortiz came to fight...he's a top 3 fighter. If its an obvious flop job then obviously no.....
No, hell no! If Wilder beats Joshua I will give him props...............Ortiz is very old, around 50, so why should I give him props? Hell, Wilder turned down $4,000,000 to fight Whyte! Why? All this trash talk about fighting Joshua, OK, it's time for him to fight Joshua................Why in the hell has he been fighting winos from the alley all these years? Wilder has HAYMON BOXING INSURANCE!
I'll give him credit, especially if Ortiz does show up to fight. Yes, Wilder runs his mouth and has a padded record, but if he wins this, it'll be the best win on his record. If anything, it's a step in the right direction.
He should get credit for taking this risky fight that Joshua wanted no part of. Ortiz is the hardest hitting heavyweight right now. Thompson and Jennings both said Ortiz hits harder than Wlad. The key for Ortiz beating Wilder is his Tyson like body attack and his uppercut.
