How do you now think the outcome would have been?

Before the fight I would have said Pavlik by stoppage, but after seeing him show up to the Martinez fight hung over and depressed I now would lean to Williams to win by a UD. Pavlik seems to have lost a lot of heart and confidence in his abilities. When he got roughed up by jermain in the first fight he went back to the corner, cleared his head and said he was good, then when out and gave it his all, where as when he started getting roughed up by Martinez he went back to the corner and said he wanted to quit.

B Hop finished pav just as he was getting started, its ashame but some fighters are able to bounce back after a loss some arent, sadly pav appears to be in the latter.

What you saw was a Pavlik that was weight drained. He was through at 160. That said, he was winning the fight until the cut. He didn't have what it took to deal with Martinez's speed. You hit Paul Williams and he will stand and trade. Pavlik would have KO'd him, perhaps not as brutally as I would have first thought though.

I'm going to have to score the Pavlik/Martinez but I think you're right about him being up.. Kinda dissapointing to see him come on strong in those middle rounds only to.. freeze up.

Williams isn't the boxer people build him up to be. The man is fairly sloppy and his defense could be tighter.. He gets away with a lot due to his size. I think Pavlik's power would have kept him honest and made it rough for Williams down the stretch.. I don't think Pavlik had the energy to stop him at 160 but you never know.

Is that The Brothers Johnson in your avatar? Bizarre. Strawberry Letter 23, muh****as!

....uh, in response to the topic, I think Pavlik is a big question mark right now.

Pavlik didn't freeze. He was weight drained and ran out of steam and got cut. There is more to the cut, but his team isn't talking about it so....

But yeah, I think Kelly only had 8 rounds in him because of the weight issue. I don't know if Paul would have lasted that long though.... Paul might have worn out worse than Kelly from the beating but I think this is the fight Paul's style would have finally failed him. Guy is a legit welter.

I agree with this. Williams doesnt have the game changing hand or foot speed that Martinez used to baffle Pavlik. Even with it, Pavlik was up or even going into the last 1/3 of the fight. I think Williams willingness to trade would be his undoing in this one. Pavlik would catch him with something heavy and win via stoppage IMO.

    Fair enough.

I never heard much of an excuse from anybody. Pavlik owned it and that's what I like. I was never much of a Taylor fan and always wanted to see Kelly do well.

What do you think of Jack Lowe? Does Kelly need to seperate himself at some point to reach his full potential?

Jack Lowe needs to go. I really hope Pavlik will realize that.

Aww, bull****. If Pavlik would just double the ****ing jab he wouldn't be in the heap of trouble he's in now.

I honestly don't know enough on the subject to make an informed decision. I've asked people to try and get a copy of the Duddy/Lyell fight. Jack is damned near 'on mike' for the entire fight because the broadcasters must be close to his corner. You can hear his instructions to Lyell. Not once will you hear 'double jab'. Different fighter, different fight......... I do wonder if being at the Wild Card Gym would help just because of the sparring partners available. Stuff like that. Success breeds success.

    No doubt.

Losing the title to Martinez can be the best or worse thing to happen to him.

I sure hope the man shows up in his next fight without any self doubt. Call me crazy, but his mentality hasn't seemed right since the Hopkins lose. Kelly looked so detached going into the Martinez fight. I hope that I'm wrong and it was just the cut.

Andrade would be the perfect opponent to get him back in the groove. Either way.. I believe he needs to tweak his style before fighting Bute.
