Two factors here: 1. Wills is not getting any younger. 2. Tunney always picked the optimum moment to take a declining fighter in terms of risk/reward. I am certain that Tunney gave more than a little thought to how he might be the person to exploit Wills decline.
Dare I even say that Dempsey might have beaten the best Wills there ever was? Joking aside. Sharkey found a way to exploit Wills decline. Tunney would have found it.
I think a prime Dempsey kos Wills.Granted Wills was old when he fought Paulino ,but the way he caved in from that right hand from a guy who was never really a big puncher ,makes me think Jack would have got him out of there, as Langford did twice. A prime , head screwed on Sharkey would give most heavyweight champion problems imo and ,certainly give Tunney an interesting evening. Sharkey's infuriating inconsistency ,dropping decs to guys he should have beaten ,allowed Tunney to bypass him.
