Tony Thompson is a very underated opponent. He is a very big southpaw, who maybe has little power, but expoits his size in many ways. His five best oppnents are all c to B level guys, but with notable accomplishment. Beating them all is meanignful.

Luan Krasiniqi- German hero, hellacious battle with brewster when the champ was at his best

Timor Ibrimgamiv- Finally proved himself with a win against Timo Hoffman, also as a draw against Kevin Johnson which was considered a knock against him when Johnson was nobody (3 fights), but now looks pretty good that Johnson is a top 30 contender.

Dommink Guinn- We all know his shortcomings (!) but he has wins over Phil Jackson, Dunkan Dokiwari, Michael Grant, Audley Harrison, as well as a draw against Friday Ahunanya which make him a legitimate B- rate guy.

Vaughn Bean- A 45-6 guy who gave a tough time to Dimentrenko. Not at all abad win.

Zuri Lawrence- Beat McClean, , Paolo Vidoz, Demitrice King (who is making some nosie after beating a king favorite) and drew against Ray Austin.

Yanqi Diaz, who handed a TKO 1 against WBC number 2 Juan Carlos Gomez..

Conversely, if Thompson should pull of the upset, he would be beating someone who is a top 30-15 ATG heavyweight guy, depening on who you talk to.

So, I think tomorrow's fight is very significant.

    What say all of you?

Mate wlad will get ripped on no matter what occurs,if he bangs him out quick, all the racist haters on here will say he was **** and it means nothing, but if he lets it go mid to late rounds,he will be laughed at for being finished and having no heart, and of course if he loses then god help the poor guy. What pisses me of with all the hate wlad recives,is that why do people knock him if he wins on points or not early?,becasue that what can ****ing happen in boxing, and is in the ****ing rules, and yet some of the knobs on here dont seem to realsie that, unless we get a quick 2 round ko they dont want to know, not really boxing fans then are they

I thinnk this is exactly right. Wlas can't win.

It is on record that I am no hugger and have been very critical against him, but he had done everything that he can do. He is on his way to being an excellent champ, unless of course, a capable guy like Thompson steals his thunder.

That is what I am saying. Who can he beat to improve his standing?

Thompson? Despite what I have posted. everyone will say he was a bum.

Povetkin? The will all just say: "What hs he accomplished as a pro?"

Chagaev? the recent injuries, and dull (though effective) fights will be held against him.

Peter? They will say Wlad has already won it, and Peter is a good stylistic match up.

Dimentrenko, Boytsov, Solis. etc.- Not proven at the pro level.

Lets face it, there is always going to be an excuse.

with this list i think you made a GOOD POINT you didnt intend to make.

cause all it proves that thomson never beat a real contender. all the guys on that list are second and third raters.

With all do respect to you, I said that they were second or third raters (c and B, which are explicitly the alpha equivelant of the numerical third and second rate).

But, if you follow the sport long enough, beating a whole lot of b and c level fighters counts, because, "Styles make fights."

I you are good, there are bound to be second rate fighters who can beat you beacuse of styles- beating a lot of different B-C guys is meaningful.

And converlsey, if you are are a B-C level guy, there still might be "A" guys you can beat.

So beating 5 B-C level guys is an accomplishment.

In Wlad's case, it'll maintain his current level. Thompson is a necessary mandatory defence to keep his WBO belt.

In Thompson's case, wow, that would be the biggest win of his career. Arguably he'd have to be the new #1 guy around, no-one else with a win over Wladimir is still active.

hey, i never said that thomson was the most undeserving guy on the planet.

but if you take a close look at thomson............damm, the man has nothing that can work against wlad.

sure, he is a southpaw............but he is sooooo slow. and he just cant punch, period.

so if you sum it up: he is way too slow to box with wlad (let alone outbox him).........he doesnt have the punch to take advantage of wlads main weakspot: his chin.

so what is he gonna do? i cant see this being even remotely competative.

yes, thomson is a capable heavyweight and giving him a title shot (especially in these days) is certainly not a bad thing.

    but capbable doesnt win here.

so when it all boils down do gravy, what do ya have?? a routine defense. NEXT!
