I understand that Wlad lacks upward mobility, and while his hands are fast, his body is relatively slow to adjust especially as he begins to tire, if he at least threw more straight hands to his opponents chest, he would score his knockouts earlier. His opponents, as limited as they might be, know that in order to fight Wlad, they don't have to worry about covering up their body, which, as long as they keep their guard up, allow them to survive for a long period of time. If you remember, Chagaev wasn't knocked cold, and in this fight Chambers looked to last the distance in another dull, albiet one-sided fight. This is why Klischko isn't on American Television because American's know that even if Klitschko eventually gets his man out of there, he does it in a way that isn't friendly to viewers. It's like watching a less exciting, less versatile version of Pac, against an endless stream of Clottey's, but opponents who aren't as strong as Clottey, it's just that they don't get hit in the body.
Klitschko and Pacquiao fight NOTHING alike, nor is there any real way to compare this to Pacquiao vs. Clottey. This comparison fails on every single level.
I was also thinking this. Not that Wlad would get the K0's or anything, but he would be a better/more effective and maybe even more efficient fighter if he just decided to punish the body more. I understand he's tall and he doesn't want to give his height and reach advantages away but when people get close on him I'm sure he could fire some upper cuts to the chest and belly of his opponents that would take some fight out of them. At least I thought Chabers was oppen for that punch. Hopefully Wlad will start implementing a better offensive approach next time that includes some body work.
Wlad's low KO% has been troubling him his entire career, maybe HENDO can step in as trainer and change things but could it be too late in Wlad's career for such a major alteration??
Actually I was thinking this at times during the fight. But if he threw to the body more that would involve getting in closer, and a tall guy should be using his height as far as possible to his advantage. Its just not his style at the end of the day
How dare you bring up something logical in this thread! Why would Klitschko want to get down to his opponent's level and expose himself to a counter punch to wear down an opponent with body punches when he can wear down the opponent with jabs from a position that is more advantagous for him? Besides like Alpham said there are plenty of KOs on Klitschko's fight history to shoot holes in this argument. Klitschko could probably KO his opponents faster if he had a body attack but why give up a certain advantage. Ali and Lewis weren't noted as body punchers either. I don't like any of their styles but still it works well for them. It's their job to get the W not to silence critics.
If Wlad went to the body more, he'd negate his height/reach advantage and expose himself to left/right hooks. This would be an absolute travesty considering that he is one of the most untouchable big men in boxing history.
Wlad doesn't need to go to the body. It's so unneccessary because he dominates so well from the outside anyway.
A lot of you people are talking like Wlad needs to go forward, bend and initiate the attack just to go to the body. Boxers know Wlads bread and butter is on the outside, so they will probably try to take the fight on the inside anyways. I just think Wlad would benefit from catching opponents trying to get in on him with hooks and upper cuts to the body, also when they put on their hear muffs on trying to counter punch, I think Wlad could mix up the attack to the head and body and do some effective damage there. Re-read my previous post which is unedited and you'll see I'm not claiming anything about Wlad fixing his KO record, and I do acknowledge he has a certaing style which is to fight tall and on the outside. But still, implementing body work to his arsenal would be very good in my opinion, I just think he needs to know how to do it. It's a shame I'm leaving now but I'll drop by eventually to attend any reply. :good
