Fury beat a distracted Wladimir who's wife was hopsitalized for a good portion of the buildup to the fight and who's only child was being attended by the help.

No excuses.

Wlad is 40 years old. Win or lose this fight or any down the road, he's the greatest HW since Lennox Lewis and will rank top 5 ATG at HW and top 50 p4p in the coming 20 yrs.

If he wins this lineal title back, he could surpass Ali and move into second ATG HW behind the GOAT Lewis. deal:deal

 

I don't know man, he looked bad against Jennings as well, I'd probably pick Fury to beat that Wlad as well.

 

Why not? To win back his titles at 40 is no mean achievement. Most HW ATGs were already retired at that age, so Wlad should get credit for doing it!

 

I think history will view Wlad better if he loses the rematch. If he loses, he can chalk both losses up to being old and history will discard them.

 

I wasn't going to give him much credit anyway, since he shouldn't have lost to Fury in the first place (in my honest opinion). Wladimir basically LET his titles fall to the floor and allowed Fury to just pick them up and walk off. He didn't "fight" to keep those belts and remain champion.

However... Tyson Fury being so out of shape isn't Wladimir's fault at all. If Wladimir crushes Fury in the rematch as a result of Fury's lack of dedication, then that's on Fury, not Wladimir.

The Furious One was well aware of the rematch clause his team signed on for. There really is no excuse for him coming into camp looking like that.

 

Modern athletes remain on top of their game MUCH longer now than in the past. Factoring in advancements in "sports science" along with the dedicated healthy lifestyle that Wladimir leads, Wladimir could reclaim his titles and go on another mini-streak for a few years. He's not washed up or past it yet by any means. He just faced a guy who he wasn't willing to throw punches against -- the type of boxer he's never really fought before when it comes to size, ring IQ, and general boxing ability.

The "old" excuse is just that, an excuse. Wladimir lost the fight and acknowledges the reason why. I don't think he's going to make the same mistake in fight 2.

 

No he deserves a lot of credit if he wins. Beating a top ranked undefeated opponent 13 years younger than him is a great accomplishment. If Fury somehow manages to win, he just beat a shot 40 year old and doesn't deserve much recognition.

 

Lewis gets Credit for beating McCall who was crying in the ring and fresh out of rehab. No different from Wlad if Fury comes in mentally unprepared

 

Nah, if he won the rematch (like really convincingly) people could at least say it was a bad performance or something.

There is no "old" or "excuse" in my post. Just a simple fact - to come back and win the HW title at 40+ years would be a worthy achievement and would deserve credit. Wlad lost the first fight not due to age, but style. To change completely for the re-match and win would also deserve credit.

 

You've chosen to acknowledge that Wladimir didn't lose due to age (unlike a segment of other posters around boxing forums), which is a start. The next step is to factor in Wladimir managing to lose a wide UD to a guy who only managed to land 7 punches a round against him on average. <-- Wladimir at 45 could do better than that.

Fury might be younger by roughly 12 years, but he's also quite poorly conditioned going into training camp and far less experienced as a boxer... especially compared to an ATG heavyweight.
