People knock the Leapai fight, but at least Leapai has beaten another contender. There are people in the top 10 right now who have never faced anyone in the top 20

But was Boystov a genuine contender? Boystov himself hasn't beaten anyone who was close to top 20 after 9 years as a pro. Boystov was basically fighting at a level of opposition close to the level the much criticised Wilder has been facing.

I don't begrudge any fighter his opportunity, it's a dream scenario for Leapai many fighters of his level will never get a title shot. He's persevered and gotten very lucky and earned a mandatory shot and a pay day that will be larger than his combined past and very likely future earnings. He's basically won the lottery.

People should be criticising this fight otherwise we will be fed this kind of fight on a regular basis. I mean Brian Minto has just won Leapai's vacant WBO Oriental title god forbid he somehow finds his way to a shot at Wlad as he will probably be inside the WBO top 10 now based on their ranking of Leapai.

I'm not kidding myself. What I said was every bit as much fact as what Chef said.
This is what annoys me about diehard Klitschko fans...the intellectual dishonesty and outright refusal to concede to the obvious. IE. Trying to justify that Wlad is fighting a part-time fighter for the Heavyweight Championship.
Everything Wlad does is pure gravy, according to them. At least try a little objectivity sometime.
There is no rational debate that can be had here, that much is obvious.

If a poster says anything negative about Wlad, that poster is automatically a hater. If a poster objects to Wlad fighting a part-timer, that poster is a blind hater.

you've just done the exact same thing you are accusing diehard klitschko fans of doing...
do you really believe he is fighting for THE HW championship?
last time I looked, boxing wasn't governed by one federation, so it's only right that belts need to be downplayed in a sport where there are way too many of them

Hey no argument that this isn't the ideal fight to make. But my point is that most of the blame should be apportioned to the other contenders who never seem to fight each other and who all seem to believe that they should only have to take a maximum of one risky fight before their title shot. That way none of them are ever going to be ready to fight the champion. People are saying Pulev is a better fight - and maybe he is. But just like Leapai he has only fought one genuine contender - old Tony Thompson.

Not Pulev's fault. He was due to fight a number of genuine contenders and they all pulled out on him.
Boystov was a guy who pulled out of high profile fights and he was rewarded #1 spot for it.
Contenders pull out against Pulev and he's made fight another one, and another one.

For heaven sake you should have saved me from this nonsense.

    There are few facts
    1) wlad is defending his title against mandatory
    2) has leapai really earned it. Propably not because boytsov original high ranking was result of corruption.

I personally dont find this as good fight even leapais win over ranked and boytsov was heart warming moment. Leapai just is not good at all, at least not beating the champ..

I feel this fight is shows what is wrong with this era of hws. Contenders not really fighting their way to title fights, earning it. You can not blame the champ for it, dure you can have a discussion if the champ should pay step away money or even dropping the belt. Ywe can argue which is more importand and honorable thing to do for wlad. But what i know wlad has stated earlier he want to keep and defend all the titles. So... i dont understand the big deal about this fight if it is mandatory and there is no one else respectable name to fight atm and the next few fights will include pulev for having shot for the title.. so what the hell does it matter if the champ defends his title as long he is willing to fight the best available oponents ans stays busy.

No one is overly excited about the Wlad-Leapai fight, but it's okay as long as Wladimir gets it out of the way within a few months and moves on to more interesting opponents later in the year (Pulev, Wilder, Fury).

Fair enough post. As long as we can all agree that Leapai is a terrible opponent for Wlad, I will say no more.

Every single contender out there claims that the other guys are ducking him. Pulev's been on a decent trajectory beating a handful of minor "names" but he is 32 and time isn't on his side.

I'm yet to see few others who have really earned a title shot either.

the fury's and wilder's r hyped way too much for what they have achieved.

What sort of a response is that? Can you not refute anything I said? Name me one fighter who pulled out of a scheduled fight with Wlad because i can name loads of guys who pulled out of fights against Pulev and Fury.

    You are very, very wrong.

The gradation of ABC titles is as follows:

    IBF >WBO>WBC>WBA

IBF is the most legitimate afther their shakedown. WBC and WBA are jokes and only matter because they have been around for ages.

Didn't you do just that when he dropped Del Boy to fight Haye.

Or was that some other fool ?
