What about Ali vs Leon Spinks,
    Holmes vs Marvis Fraizer
    Tyson vs McNeely
    Patterson vs Radamacher

But I guess it is cool because because the champs were black Americans.

Where did you ever see me condone Ali-Spinks or Holmes-Frazier? The other two fights were circus events and one of them wasnt for a championship, did you know that slow guy? And what does race or nationality have to do with it? Ive already stated it wouldnt bother Wlad taking on a soft touch after beating several top fighters in a row, so where are you even coming from? My point is past champions fought more top comp more often so were afforded soft touches. Id have no problem with any fighter doing that. But if the heavyweight champ is only going to fight twice a year i think both should be against ranked fighters.

Oh absolutely. No better opponent to end a HOF career than Shannon Briggs ...

On general principals, I don't like the idea of a guy well outside the top 20 getting a crack at the title while there are more deserving contenders out there, especially a guy who has done absolutely nothing to earn such a shot.

But this is from MY point of view.

In judging Wlad, there would be absolutely nothing amiss with this bout if it generated sufficient fan interest in Germany or elsewhere, for whatever reason.

If Wlad is facing and beating the mandatories and the top contenders like Pulev and Povetkin, fighting a Briggs as a bit of a sideshow will not harm his legacy, nor should it.

Ali and Louis fought a fair amount of less-than-stellar opposition, but they also fought the best around in their eras. So who cares if the faced occasional weak opposition intermittently ?

And so it would be with Wlad fighting Briggs if he had already cleaned out the more serious contenders.

And besides, everybody likes to see a no-hoper get a chance once in a while, just to root for the underdog.

There's a reason Rocky (the original movie, 1976) struck a chord with a lot of folks.

Briggs has not beat a live opponent since Liakhovich 9 years ago and even back then Liakhovich was nothing special. He didnt deserve a shot against Vitali but fair enough he got it and he performed so badly that he had his purse with held if i recall. How can you justify this? Let him earn it.

No, don't fight Briggs unless he prove himself worthy.

Briggs is terrible and simply put there is no reason to fight him. Plenty of other contenders

We should not be talking about Wlad fighting Briggs. Period.

Because it sucked then and it sucks now. The fans want to see him fight top contenders and solidify his legacy

I think going out with that bang in Povetkin II would be his best case scenario. He'll never do any better than exactly that. Nothing is there for him to have a more suitable finishing touch on his career. Briggs would be gilding the lily, zero reward (except tangible, and Wlad can't be hurting there) for, granted, minimal risk, but anything can happen in this mad sport...and Briggs is powerful...and Wlad has those 'issues'...

It would be just blithering stupidity if he chose to risk the ruining of a good thing if he beat Jennings/WBC champ/Povetkin II by playing with fire and indulging the eminently unworthy Briggs.

No need to fight Povetkin again. I like Wlad but fighting Briggs is gross.

As long as Wlad keeps trying to make fights with the biggest names - something he has always consistently done - he can fight whoever he wants in between. He's earned that right and paid his dues.
