Briggs has to beat one of Chagaev, Ortiz, Browne, Joe Parker, Joshua, or at least Taver to make it acceptable. He would qualify as WBA top rated then. It would still be a mismatch though. IMO, he loses all of those fights. Wlad should demand it through the press, for Briggs. Something nice may come out of it.
No. beating 1 of those guys is not enough. So many guys struggling to get a shot who deserve it more. He needs to beat 2 legit fighters, and at least 1 real top ten guy. A consensus top 10, and not some carp wba ranked guy. Chagaev is debatable as a top 20 name. He's not going no where near Parker, or Joshua. They have low reward, and high risk. He needs to beat Someone like Povetkin.
Briggs does need to beat just one semi name. I'm sure Malik Scuba Scott could be convinced to put in a suitable performance..
Nope. Beating Scott does not merit a shot. He needs to beat a legit top 10 guy on the Transitional ratings. Alphabet ratings don't hold weight.
Why would briggs be more worthy for shot than any other single heavyweight that has a six fight winning streak against **** opponents. Because he's loud? When John Mcenroe was shot he never got another chance, and he had a big mouth. You must earn it!
Windy got the shot by 'beating' Scuba, and the same did out point Leapai which Briggs could point to as a recent title challenger. I think Scott is perfect for Briggs.
You have 2 legit mathups waiting for Wlad right now. Fury, and Wilder are both interesting matchups, we need to see them back to back with no cherries in between. Jennings-Fury-Wilder in order would do his legacy good! Fighting any cherries at all is unacceptable unless he plans on fighting 3 times a year. Maybe that sounds like a tough bargin, but I think I speak for most fans who expect more out our champions!
It would, the former two anyway, if only because they were at least coming off reasonable top 50-ish victories (Leapai swiping Boytsov's ranking in that shocker, and Wach had kayoed Hammer a couple years earlier and in the meantime kept himself relevant by feasting on the likes of McBride/Gavern/Fields - which, though not great, are miles above Briggs' competition of late) Probably on par with the ghost of Rahman.
Wilder should not have gotten his shot based on beating Scott. He should have had to beat Jennings, or Perez. I do not condone how Wilder came about getting his shot either. It was a very shady way to get a title shot.
