If you are a champion, you should not get to pick your opponents. Money should not have part at all!

I agree with you on everything, except that Fury is a fake champion. Still, Fury ended Wlad's decade-long dominance, and whether anyone liked the fight or not; it wasn't a robbery. Fury was stripped of all his belts, and then he broke Wilder's half-decade dominance, becoming the champion again. Without the Fury-Wilder trilogy, the heavyweight division would be even less enticing to watch. If we are talking about the undisputed champion, he has been gone for a quarter of a century (and Lewis since 1999). Professional boxing is first of all show business (not just business), and that implies that boxers are actors (although sometimes they get carried away by emotions, like after the Usyk-AJ 2 fight). I really don't know the reasons for not holding the Fury vs Usyk fight, and like everyone else I would love to see it. But I know that Oleksandr Usyk is also a part of that show business.

Fortunately, fans do not get to make the rules/dictate who fights who.

If you're not happy with professional boxing, go watch the amateurs.

    Such a naive idea.

So are we going to mandate that promoters stage fights that are going to lose them money? Or that fighters have to fight whoever is ‘mandated’ regardless … so a promoter can offer them each $100 and they have to take it? LOL.

And however you structure it, it will still be all about the money. If you make it so a champion has to fight one of the top three contenders, whoever is choosing those three contenders is going to be corrupted by bribes from the managers/promoters to get their guy in that top three whether they merit it or not.

I'm not sure I agree just because it seems fighters could get exploited. I would however, like to see tournaments with top ranked fighters where winners are mandated to face each other at pre negotiated terms.

We should stop caling pro-boxing "pro-boxing" and start calling it always "prize-fighting". It seems that it is really hard for some people to understand the reason why prize-fighters fight. The only reason they fight, the only one, is MONEY. They wouldnt do that for free at all. Hence, all that matters in prize-fighting is MONEY. The rest may be important for the fans, but definetely it is not, and it should not be, for the fighter, who is fighting in order to feed his family.

The quicker you realise boxing is a business disguised as a sport, your expectations will be in check

Unfortunately money all too often decides the direction of the sport and often it's to the detriment to what the fans want which is simply the best to fight the best. Even the most courageous fighters who will fight anyone allow money to dictate who they fight to a degree.

The situation with Fury is frustrating and fans should definitely not give Fury a pass for clearly delaying this fight. But there's a reason there hasn't been an undisputed heavyweight champion since Lewis beat Holyfield. Even that undisputed heavyweight title fight took it's time to make with Holyfield backing out after his demands were met and asking for more money.

So yes, vilify Fury to keep the pressure on him to make the fight but right now the most money being offered for the fight is at the end of the year in Saudi Arabia. Anything before then is never going to happen, Fury and the money men behind him want to make the most money possible for this fight and so will not make the fight until then at the earliest.

Now if the fight in Saudi Arabia falls through again then fans should be pissed but we should be patient until then I think there is simply too much money being offered for this fight not to happen.

You'll never get the average westerner to agree with you. It's their livelihoods- Their lives revolve around money. You can't explain it to them, in the same way an insect is drawn to food, they are drawn to money. It's an irresistible urge on the level of sex. Questioning it in any area is against human nature. It's the highest virtue- more important than the sport, even within the realm of the sport itself, or anything else. Of course the Pope gambles, being Pope doesn't pay well. Of course the world champion ducks fights, fighting the best doesn't pay well.

They're dull, and they've been conditioned into an extraordinarily idiotic view of the world, applying this even in areas where the results are, to the even slightly awake, disastrous.

Who defended his four titles once in 18 months against an opponent he already beat. But the OP is... hahaha!

True. Now what does that say about the title holder of 4 belts plus The Ring Magazine? :D
