Sorry but you are plum wrong. Duran defended his title 12 times in just over five years and each time made the weight no problem, 12 defences in 5 years is spectacular by modern standards. Every champ of that era took on what were in effect exhibitions to fill the coffers. How you can complain about a fighter taking on 40+ contests in 5 years I don't know :verysad

Jones is a great fighter and ATG if you will but the fact that he didn't fight Collins, Benn, Eubank and the man whose titles he didn't win in the ring - Michalczewski's - still pisses me off. Most of the fighters you quoted would have been beaten by the aforementioned fighters.

It also reminds me of the great loss of the G-man who was one of the most ferocious punchers and best up and coming talents I've ever seen.

He shut McCallum out, and Jones said he held back though he wasn't going to stop McCallum anyway. Jones comp was perceived as suspect then. It is only now that the guys he fought are appreciated. Losing to Johnson and Tarver changed a lot of peoples minds about Jones.

As if I didn't know that. Why do u think I didn't mention when there was one champ? That goes without saying.

MUCH worst boxers than Shannon Briggs regularly become paper title holders. Even cans like Rahman & Leon Spinks can still win the linear title & abc belts. Outside of Erdei the shitty linear champs don't last.

& the WBO is at least as legit as the IBF.

    .

Chavez takes alot of heat for his weak resume, well to be honest Duran's isnt much better, not to mention that once again Duran lost to most of the Elite fighters that he faced.

Your recollection of who ali beat, lost to and who he fought in fixed fights discredits your post from the jump. Your thoughts are comical too. :rofl The Norton fights are your best argument, and Norton lost those fights. Being ko'd by Foreman in 2 justifies Ali's greatness. Cooper and jones were before he won a world title with Ali clearly beating Jones in front of a pro Jones crowd, and Ali got up between 2 and 3 when Cooper put him down. Whether you think Dundee ripped the glove or not, there was no time delay. Ali went out and did his business. Young didn't even do enough to say he won. Ali isn't called the greastest for getting away with 6 robberies.

Did I say holding a title means more than the linear title in all cases? NO, I didn't. I only said that being linear champ doesn't automatically make you the best in the division. Neither does holding a title.

HOWEVER, sometimes the best in the division holds just one of the titles, (or even no titles as was the case a few years ago with Morales or Barrera), just as sometimes the best also happens to be the linear champ.

But one does not necessarily mean the other.

I don't even know what you are arguing with me about any more.
