What about the truly great fights of the past?!
I for one am excited about the upcoming Ruiz vs Joshua contest despite recognizing that neither of them are particularly good. So how would I have been and what level of excitement and anticipation would I have experienced on the eve of the "Rumble in the Jungle" or the "Thrilla in Manila" or Holmes vs Cooney or Tyson vs Spinks?

I would love to hear the memories and opinions of those who remember how they felt before those momentous contests.

Not gonna lie I'm more excited to see if Whyte can cold **** Wach than I am for Ruiz Joshua, simply based on the fact that I really don't like both guys. I'm routing for Joshua coz he's a Brit, but that's the only reason why.

This has to be the biggest fight I've been around for where I could not a give one **** who wins.

Hunter vs Povetkin is the best fight on the card imo.

Due to my age I can't say what historic fights I'd have been gassed for, but I can say some I reckon I'd have been absolutely buzzing for. So:

Ezzard Charles vs Marciano, Louis, JJW 4 and Moore 3
Hearns vs Leonard 1&2, Duran, MMH and Barkley 2
Johnson vs Spinks, Galindez, EMM and Saad 2
Lewis vs Tyson, Holyfield, Golota and Bruno

I'm excited and will be wearing my "DESTROYER HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD " t-shirt.
I was an adult for those you mentioned. The excitement isn't the same because I don't really know the 2 that well. I followed Bombsquad more than these 2 and have seen no other heavy today. Couldn't tell who they were if right in front of me.
Boxing was loved back then. No cable or computers or phones. 3 networks. No ****ing ESPN or any **** like that. Unified countries. Everybody knew fighters and especially the champ. After 1983 that all began to disappear until today's modern train wreck. I just hope for a Destroyer win by KO and great action while it lasts.

The first big fight I was really excited about was Tyson-Spinks, but I didn't get to see it live on TV. The first one I saw live on TV was Tyson-Bruno I and I remember the electricity around Tyson. No fighter I've seen since has had that aura. It was just immense.

Then there were quite a few in 90's: Holy-Foreman, Holy-Bowe, Holy-Tyson, Holy-Lewis (a lot of Holyfield here I see now). I also thought Tyson-Lewis was quite exciting beforehand. Oh, and let's not forget DLH-Chavez. Didn't get to see DLH-Tito, but read a bit about it.

The first fight that I recall eagerly awaiting was Tommy Hearns v Marvin Hagler!
Everything I read about the fight just convinced me that this fight HAD to be a classic. The scarey lookin Hearns with those cold killer eyes takin on the snarling, king of the middleweight s.. They don't make em like that anymore..

i am excited. I want to see if Joshua is the real deal. If he is he will beat Ruiz by about 3rd or 4th round knockout. He has the size and leverage so if he fights the right fight he knocks him out early.
