If you are the boxer, would you box for legacy or money?

It is easy to rip fighters for their choices of opponents. Afterall, the hardest part of what we do is turning on the computer and waiting for it to boot up.

Now, if I am the one fighting on the ring, that i9s entirely a different ballgame!

It is nice to fight for legacy and money at the same time, but those fights are never always there. Soemtimes it is more money, others it is more legacy.

If I would be a fighter, I would probably fight for money. A boxer has a very short career (mostly) and after retirement, if you are not set for life, You end up as either a security guard or a trainer if you are lucky simply for the reason that most boxers do not have college education.

Assuming that you only have a black and white choice, which would you rather have?

I would rather have legacy, because more often than not if you have a great legacy then the money will come with it.

Growing up I've always wanted to be remembered for something when I die (still hoping that I fullfill my dreams) and I want people to say that I was the best or at least one of the best.

it takes both. quality opponents, most of the times, bring in more cash.

Money. The sport is extremely dangerous, fighters are routinely exploited, and provides a wonderful 401K plan of $0.00.

A legacy in the sport is great. A legacy to your family to make sure they're financially set for life is better. That's more important than what a bunch of strangers say about your career.

If you only fight for money, the public will soon wake up to that and there won't be any money.

You can't totally disregard your legacy.

Floyd's put himself into a position where he finally had to do something on the legacy front and against Mosley he has both, but assuming he wins that fight, he will only be able to get away with one more non-legacy fight before the public will demand he face either Pac, Paul Williams or Berto.

    Legacy.

Seriously, how much money do you need????

    Nowdays you can have both.

Sure you won't have as much but you'll have earned more $$ than you can ever spend, unless you're completely hopeless with money.

    Legacy = money.

Muhammad Ali is worth a ton still.

  10. I didn't get into boxing because of a friend who was a good amateur and he advised me not to even bother with it.

    That's right to be honest.

Joe average fighting for $200 in a club, isn't fighing for his legacy.

Neither really, are guys that are at the 'gatekeeper' status. For a fighter to even think about his 'legacy', you're talking about guys earning big, big money.

Legacy of course. These guys do get handsomely paid for most of what they do past a certain point. Legacy.

    Exactly.

Anyone fighting for legacy is fighting for big money.

But if they weren't fighting for big money, they wouldn't care about legacy.

What if you were an Elite boxer?

Would you take a fight that pays the same against a borderline top 10 P4P fighter in your weightclass or the guy ranked 1-2?
