If you are Tyson Fury and want to duck Usyk again, what excuse would you make?

I don't think he could get away with it at this point.

What I can see happening is Fury backing out of fight 2 and retiring if he wins fight 1. But I think fight 1 is a go no matter what.

I could be wrong, but it's always been my assumption that a rematch doesn't happen... Because if Fury wins #1 I expect him to duck the rematch and if Usyk wins I expect Fury to retire claiming he's shot and Usyk wouldn't have had a chance in his prime.

Then either way once it's obvious Fury won't fight, Usyk retires too.

I think if Fury loses hes going to insist on a rematch. I think the rematch clause is there cause Fury believes he will likely get 1 of 2 and would not have agreed to fight Usyk once. If Fury loses hes not undefeated anymore and he has more to gain from avenging his only loss.

That is just speculation on my part of course.

Maybe... Or maybe losing his 0 would send his already fragile self-esteem into a nosedive and he wouldn't be able to face the rematch?

I suspect that the rematch clause is there because their respective managers wanted it, and just in case they could be persuaded to re-run it (for good money)...
I'm not sure deep down either fighter would really be desperate to do it twice - and IMHO if it weren't for undisputed there's a good chance they'd both be retired already.

Could be wrong as I say, it just doesn't seem likely to me that Fury lets rematch occur either way.

We will see. We will see. We're all just guessing based on how we're perceiving Furys very erratic behavior. But Fury does seem to be mentioning the rematch a whole lot.

One thing I'll note is it appears the sanctioning bodies expect the rematch to happen because the most contentious issue right now is whether they would be willing to wait for said rematch before stripping the winner of fight 1. The WBC just confirmed they are willing to wait. The IBF probably won't.

I'd just stick with the original one he cited regarding Usyk being a foreigner and a no name despite the fact he'd fought like six foreigners in his previous seven fights and Usyk was the former undisputed CW champion, Olympic, World Amateur, and European gold medalist and very highly ranked P4P and well known and popular in Britain

He said he still had zero interest in facing him even if Usyk annexed all of AJ's belts from him which of course he went on to do

Create a new restaurant that sells wild boar meat, go there and eat enough wild boar, surrender for voluntary testing, test positive, sue the new restaurant I just founded, pay myself the damages as awarded by a court of competent jurisdiction, blame usyk and Joshua for setting me up cos they don't want no smoke, fight charr and declare myself the best and most avoided heavyweight of all time. Easy peasy!

That's exactly the angle he's going to be going for here, if he wants to potentially avoid the penalty clause. Feign mental health issues, pull out of the fight citing doctor's recommendations, then make a big song and dance in the media about how serious the whole topic is and that he wants to raise awareness for other men suffering in silence in order to make it look like he didn't just puss out again like a big nancy. Only, the British public won't buy it this time, and the tabloids will crucify him. Which might lead him to develop actual mental health issues, and force him to genuinely retire from the sport instead of the fake retirement he was planning on.
