The Overall Consensus of this fight is that dirrell won... obviously fights are not scored like this but based on the majority decision (round by round) dirrell won the fight 114-113

If you take all 3 judges score cards and average them out (which is how fights should be scored from now on to remove inept judging and it basically favors the fighter who probably won that round) dirrell won the fight over all....

    froch round 1
    dirrell round 2
    froch round 3
    dirrell round 4
    dirrell round 5
    froch round 6
    froch roudn 7
    froch roudn 8
    dirrell round 9 (tie round)
    dirrel roudn 10
    dirrel roudn 11
    dirrel roudn 12

    5-7.. really 5 - 6 because of round 9

either way even based on the judges scoring the proper way to score this fight should be 114-113 in favor of dirrell

So that's 6-5 Dirrell, minus the point deduction equals a draw. Therefore even in your woeful analysis of trying to point out that Dirrell won the fight, you've failed miserably. Awful thread. And it's not important in the slightest.

The only problem with majority voting for rounds is that you can end up ruling out the 2 judges that scored the fight in favour of Fighter A whilst Fighter B got majority verdicts on his rounds. Neither system would be infallible.

It's a woeful idea anyway. How can you claim to have 'averaged out' the scorecards when you don't take into account the final score. I could claim that adding the final scores together for Froch (115, 115 & 113/3) compared to Dirrell's (112, 112 & 114/3) it clearly shows that Froch won the fight. Does that make it true?

One thing to notice is that the two judges scoring it for Froch only agree on 4 rds but disagree on 8... that is either evident of many rounds being close or the judges looking for different things.

All 3 judges only agreed on 4 rounds, so yeah basically it was a pig to score.

Personally I think its a clever idea to pick the majority score round for round to conclude a final score card.. It would solve a lot of problems.. Not soley because of this fight but in general.. this method possess's the ability to cancel out a bad judge in a way.. unfortunately it will never catch on..

    because look at the contradiction...

    andre dirrell lost the fight
    yet
in the eyes of the judges on average he won the majority of the fight

the final scores are tainted because you have guys like the italian judge giving the last 2 round to froch which were clearly dirrells.... to put it in simple terms.... averaging out the scores eliminates the idiots score

yeah but my point still stands... you have guys who clearly & obviously give rounds to the wrong guy... this would eliminate that aspect of scoring a fight

Who's cares? Judging is subjective. Just because you thought Dirrell won the fight doesn't make it so, who the **** are you to think that your opinion is the right one and that is that? Judging is far too complicated to rely on simple mathematics to find the winner that YOU want.

Do judges have discretion to reduce a fighter's score if they see something they don't like, without the referee explicitly declaring a point deduction for a foul? For example, if I was a judge, and I saw someone repeatedly using illegal tactics but the referee didn't explicitly deduct a point for them, could I still do so?
