If Jack & Kelly are smart, they would make it work. Its Kelly's best interest to get a trainer that can help him deal with slick boxers, and properly form him into a better boxer.
I can feel where you're comin' from, but Pav's been in with all types of fighters by now, and there is certainly only ONE Mr. Bernard Hopkins. They'll work on it.:good
Not necessarily. What if JT would've been smart and as dedicated to training as Pavlik was when they met eachother both fights? Taylor is a guy that has all the tools to outbox Pavlik, but he doesn't have the brain to do so. & what happens in the future if Pavlik happens to come across a good boxer? If Pavlik takes his game to the next level and develops into a more complete fighter, he'll be able to deal with even a guy as crafty and smart as Hopkins. Pavliks best 12 round win was over a somewhat confident JT. Pavlik & team have to form Kelly into a more complete fighter
You, sir, make very valid points. Nothing to argue there. One interesting note (though very little to do with what we've been saying) is the 2nd JT fight and Hops is the only 2 times Pavlik has gone 12 rounds.
There is a least an outside chance that all this is bull****. I'm not dissing you. I'm talking about the whole thread, including my part in it. It's the loss to Hops that brought these kinds of threads up. Pavlik had an injury to his left elbow. How does an injury like that effect a fighter as heavily dependent on the jab as KP is? Pavlik had a serious case of bronchitis; multiple antibioitics and a 101 fever the day before the fight. How does that kind of illness effect your ability to make your body cooperate with your brain? I'm not saying Kelly would have beat BHop if he were 100%. However, to a degree I think we need to see what happens in the future to really be certain how far from 100% Kelly really was. Let's take a hypothetical. Suppose that by years end KP stops the winner of Williams/Wright and then stops AA in highlight real fashion, we may need to re-think what really happended in the Hopkins fight.
Good points boo. You know boxing as well as anybody on here, and it's certainly a what have you done lately thing. A few good wins and people won't care no more. Too many examples of this to list.
Yes sire, those are his only 2 fights that have went 12. & I give him props for being well conditioned throughout the whole fight, unlike JT. JT is lazy, he's not very well disciplined, he doesnt give it his all in training, and what I hate the most about him is that he was getting gifts because HBO wanted to make him the next big thing. But in the future, if Pavlik ever expects to take it to that next level and be dominant, he will have to add another trainer. What happens if Pavlik has to face someone naturally bigger & more powerful than him? What happens if Danny Jacobs develops properly and in a couple of years Pavlik has to fight him? Pavlik is gonna be in trouble
you guys r killing me id watch that show for sure the them song (He my best friend a warm hearted person who loves me to the end ) it would be like rob and big.
Well, let me weigh in on this one being from Ytown. In the early 70's the local university had a professor that was very popular with the students and very hated by the faculty. The one thing I remember my brother saying about him is that he accused Ytown of suffering from "Educational Incest". People went through the local school system from kindergarten to college graduate and then went back to teach in the same system. Maybe we have an "us against the world" complex? That said, the world only knows Jack Lowe through Kelly Pavlik. Boo knows WAY more than I do about boxing, but most of you have picked up on that already. Not very hard. But his pickup on Miguel Diaz is pretty insightful. Nobody knows everything. Jack and Kelly haven't had the luxuray of LIVING boxing until recently. In the end, this is something Kelly and Jack are going to have to take a long hard honest look at and decide what is best for BOTH of them. We know they are joined at the hip and that part isn't going to change and I'm sure each wants the best for the other so they are BOTH going to have to figure out how to take it to the next level now that they realize that NEEDS to happen. This is long winded even for me.
Yeah. I've said all along that if you look at the Bhop, Taylor, Pavlik progression, that fight should have at least been competitive. I think Kelly has probably learned to put his Ytown work ethic aside and call in sick when he has too. But look at it from his side. He knew that a ton of fans had already booked airline tickets, rooms, etc....
I have trouble watching that fight, but maybe I can skip to the end. I though I heard Bhop telling him to listen to his corner. I could be wrong about that, but can I bring myself to put that fight on again to find out?.....:-(
I hope he doesn't suffer another loss before he realizes he might need to put loyalty aside considering loew. Maybe it will work out though.
Here's another point to consider. We should NEVER assume that we hear everything that is said in the corner. We do not! I doubt if we hear 1/3 of what is said. Like I said earlier, Mike Pavlik SR, Jack Leow, and even Miguel Diaz all tried to get KP to post pone the BHop fight. Kelly simply would not have it. He thought with his balls instead of his brain. The responsibility for Kelly's poor performance belongs to him, not Jack Leow. I read that after the Zuniga fight Kelly swore he would never again take an opponent lightly. He has not done it again; He even took Gary "I'll Take a Knee" Lockett seriously! After the first Taylor fight he said we'd never see him drop his hands and stick his chin out again, and we have not. Hopefully Kelly learned his lesson in this one too.
