Standing 8. Some don't like it I do. It's not used enough IMO. I think of Tony Tucker vs Buster Douglas for instance. Douglas was handling biz, but was clearly tiring, then Tucker lands a series of rights. On the ropes getting pounded, Mills jumps in and stops the fight. A great example to me is this fight below 20 second stoppage... This content is protected The stoppage above to me, wasn't worth it. In this instant as a ref, I would have separated the two and administer a standing 8. That gives me time to look the dude in his eyes, glassy? Lights on, but no one's home? Then I can wave it off. Too many times a fighter is stopped while on their feet. If they're covering up, I know they got some faculties, now if they're laying on the ropes getting battered hands down, ok, that's different. If I had the power I would require that if a fighter was not dropped in the round he's getting his azz handed to him, before u stop the fight, you MUST call a standing 8. That doesn't mean he has to continue, it simply ensures that the ref isn't jumping the gun. The greatest example of how this works is the ref in Moorer vs Cooper. Moorer turns the tide , spins Bert to the ropes and drops him. The ref could've stopped it when Bert hit the deck, he didn't! Allowed him to get up, and while counting he saw the demeanor of Bert. He was smoked! He didn't want no more, so the ref placed his hands around him, I see it in your eyes, you can physically still go, but your will power just checked out. IMO that is an example of a well deserved stoppage. It's about 3:50 into the clip This content is protected Given the chance I'd make it a rule in my sanctioning body wbc, wba, etc, if not a rule that is along the lines of a 10 point must system.

I’d add an extra round, 13 rounds - impossible to have a draw. Another good thing would be chucking in 2 extra judges so it would be harder to rob someone. Or leave 3 judges but make sure that neither them or ref are getting paid by promoters. So basically I’m more concerned about an even and square playground than anything else but I like your idea about standing 8. I think that this would somewhat solve the “British stoppage” kind of thing by at least giving fighters a chance to prove they’re able to continue. Even pre-paid reff wouldn’t risk stopping a fight if everyone was able to see that the fighter is ok.
I like standing 8 as well, sometimes a guy can just stand up to punishment without going down, so it forces a stoppage, but a standing 8 could provide a little reprieve for the fighter and the fight to continue.
One thing I would change is the ropes, I know it's not really a rule but I personally think they should have something that prevents fighters from falling out of the ring, for me it's silly how unsafe these ropes are.
Thats a weird one for me. We know absolutely nothing on how these guys get to 'become judges. But i do know that boxing judges also judge MMA, which is a red flag. (You mean to tell me that they are on experts in two combat sports?) I love the idea of five judges and the judges should have an extensive learning curve before they get to judge pro fights. Aka they have to take multiple seminars and pass a ton of tests.
The ring mat should be extended out. Falling through the ropes is part of the excitement, but they shouldn't fall out onto the floor.
Fighters who stay off the ropes get knocked through the ropes. Ali laid on the ropes never fell out...go figure... As much as I like Hopkins, I get a kick out of watching Smith literally blast him out. So if we take your change....we'll never get to see scenes like Jim Lamply "Hasim Rahman fell out, he's right next to me! right next to me!" LMAO This content is protected
My favorite through the ropes moment! After 10 amazingly boring rounds, Briggs musters up some air in his lungs and while Liakhovich kinda falls out from fatigue...its seeing him laying on the scorers table, then his legs fall between the table and ring, while his handlers are about to break him in 1/2 trying to get him unstuck, priceless dude!!
