Agree with being MUCH tougher on clinches. If I wanted to watch two guys hugging I'd watch MMA. Also agree with same day weigh-ins, the current system is clearly being abused, but they should actually have multiple weigh-ins in the week leading up to the fight, otherwise you'll end up getting some idiot dehydrating himself on the day of the fight just so he can make weight and not lose his purse, which would lead to very dangerous situations. At least with multiple weigh-ins it makes weight cutting almost impossible. I think something needs to be done about the point system too, it's too subjective, but I'm not sure what the answer is yet, ideally you'd want to introduce technology, but I'm not sure how this could be implemented.
Maybe, if a fight is too close, the judges should declare that the decision is postponed (for a couple of hours or till the next day) then they should watch the replays and finalize the decision after that.
It would probably lead to fairer decisions, only problem is I think most fans, both those in the arena and those at home would hate not knowing who the winner was.
Yes, it would create some problems in a commercial sense, but when a fight is close, a half (approximately) of the fans are pissed off anyways.
True 365 random testing with sample retesting options for all highly rated boxers with real consequences when testing positive, like we see in most global sports.
I'd like to go back to same day weigh ins, the morning/midday of fight day. It was a sensible idea to have a weighin 24 hours before a fight because of rehydration and fighters risking their health but times have changed, sports science has made it very possible to cut huge amounts of weight and rehydrate within that 24 hours. I believe it's being seriously abused now, you are getting some fighters coming in to the ring way way way above their weight at the weigh in, it's ridiculous. With monitoring and weight checks I believe same day weighins can be brought back.
As it relates to your statement : "This has been discussed debated and argued about for many years before you seemingly younger generation .." Thank you for calling a man in his upper uh 40s...younger generation! That's why I'm on this forum LOL! To debate, discuss issues of boxing. I just choose topics like this as many threads here are more mythical. Who would win a dead dude from 1940s vs. a current fighter. If that is your specialty topic, cool with me. Doesn't make you young and dumb nor old and wise. And when you stated : It is generally thought to be safer .." Well generally according to who? Fight fans such as you? Generalizations I'm sure you will agree isn't a synonym for fact. It's speculating based on the person's perspective to which I respect--so as long as mines is. I've never followed the crowd or the rule of thumb or people in general, just me. And when you stated: . It just makes it look very amateurish with panicked refs jumping in.." Well that's why I gave an example of how a judge uses discretion wisely --the Moorer-Cooper vid. Is it really the standing 8 that made said ref look amateurish? Or the referee , or your opinion? I respect it, but others here , heck plenty here agree with me. Doesn't make us right and you wrong. Or us young and dumb -you older and wise...What it does mean---It is a consensus here..that it isn't a bad idea to consider. But hey that's what we're here for right? Argue, agree, disagree...--what matters is that we all learn a bit more today than we did yesterday! Cheers!
Yeah in theory. But I'm sure you've seen more than a fair share of fights where U wanted to kick the tv and ref for a stoppage from out of nowhere. I think it's a disgrace when a ref stops a fight without even looking into the fighter's eyes. I'd also say whoever stated 13 rounds or odd rounds...that would be the best rule to change out of this topic. But that isn't full proof either!
Do away with promoting match making and bring back true Prizefighting. All monies are guaranteed to go to the boxer who is actually in the fight. The boxer then decides how much he would like to give to his corner (trainer, cutman, etc). This solves the issue with corrupted promoters, judges, cherry picking, alpha-belt soup but promotes heart, determination, mano e mano, and the true spirit this great sport instilled long ago.
I'd like judges to be at the post fight press conferences. They should need to publicly explain why they scored a round or a fight a certain way. I'm assuming this would eliminate some of the most egregious scorecards.
What if... What if all boxing forums came together and forwarded this to the ABC belts & networks HBO/Sho/PBC...this just topped my list.
Cause Im feeling gruesome today.. 8 ounce gloves for everyone.. No clinching.. Same day weigh ins Blood will flowwwww..
