I don't know if people remember but this was a tactic that Ali used CONSTANTLY. He would grab a guy behind the head ALL THE TIME when he was on the ropes. Ali would have probably lost 4 or 5 more fights if he had not been allowed to use this tactic.
In theory, this is great but it would play havoc on televised events. How could they really enforce this? What if a guy makes the weight then when he is re-weighed he is over what is allowed? Probably the biggest reason for the early weigh-in now is not, as portrayed, to give the fighter a chance to rehydrate, but to make sure everything goes off as planned with the TV producers.
Yeah, smaller gloves is a bad idea. Think back to the Billy Collins fight where Panama Lewis pulled the stuffing from his fighters gloves. Collins was never the same and later committed suicide over the loss.
Definitely some standardisation between post weigh-in weight gain limits. Getting fed up of seeing scenes like GGG Jacobs.
Bring back 15 rounds for championship fights. So many fights are over at the end of 12 rounds when you can see that both still have a lot more to give and its so frustrating watching that.
I would make it so that clinching is penalised more so fighters are incentivised to fight on the inside more.
For me, I begrudgingly accept that it has been employed as a strategy for as long as there has been film. I gave up trying to count the number of clinches here Dempsey vs Carpentier- clinching starts as soon as the video begins...lol This content is protected
I'd go back to weighs on the morning of the fight If I could make 2 changes the second would be world title fights back to 15 rounds
This wouldn't necessarily be a good idea... Adding 3 more rounds would cause less action in fights per round in the case of saving for later rounds.
Today would be harder to get away with...certainly you could pull more out of bigger gloves and I believe it was actually his hand wraps the issue.
They shouldn't give a decision period in close fights. They should vote on a piece of paper and create a boxing garden sanctioned in Jersey where they dig it up ten years later to see the final verdict and then do process.
Actually, there should be indeed an odd amount of rounds in a pro boxing fight. I guess I would make it 11 rounds (and 9 rounds for a non-title fight).
Harsher punishment on clinching. First clinch warning, second clinch lose the round 10-9, third lose it 10-8, fourth get disqualified. Clinching should be a defensive last resort. Anyone with intentions to win a wound shouldnt be initiating any clinches.
Cut out all the wrestling, holding, headbutting, mismatches, elbows, corrupt judges, referee, boxing commissions, the big rules is for neutral judges and referee.....................
