Boxing as a whole is considerably weaker. Maybe the newer weight classes like 168 and 190 are doing better, but I don't really follow those.
It's odd and sucks for the sport that lightweight's pretty mediocre at the moment. Guys that can punch like welterweights but can move and throw as much as featherweights might be the funnest to watch. Some of the most exciting whether they're the greatest fighters have been lightweights: Duran, Chavez, Arguello, Nelson, Gatti, the list goes on.
