If you could do Calzaghe's career again, who would you have him fight?

I'd send him over to the States a lot earlier and have him fight Jones and Hopkins. Obviously. Key thing is going to the States. Doing what the likes of Khan, Hatton, Naz and Froch have done.

Her was always complaining about how hardit was to make 168 so he should have gone to 175 earlier too.

In America,campaigning at 175,the Jones fight would have happened a lot earlier,and would have actually meant something.

I would have him move up to LHW around year 2k. Would have fought Jones, DM, Tarver... Hopefully call out Hopkins if he had any success at the weight. I would like see how Joe did against a good southpaw... There were certainly a couple at LHW around that time.

This thread is actually opposite of the Jones ducking thread really. Most of the ones who accuse Jones of ducking every fighter in the world defend Calzaghe to the end...

Kind of stupid really... Jones and Calzaghe's careers were managed somewhat similar to each other in that they both missed out on good fighters. Although Roy did clearly take more risks than Calzaghe.

I would try to ensure Bhop doesn't duck him in 2002 and head to the states a bit earlier even just to fight the same kind of opposition. That way Americans will know me better and won't be so stupid about stuff like the American hero Jeff Lacy. But keep the final run from Lacy onwards although I can take or leave Manfredo
